Xfinity erroneously sent my contact information to a debt collection agency (Sequium Asset Solutions, LLC) for an account that is not mine

About 2 and half years ago when I moved and set up Xfinity internet service at my new place (I had used Xfinity in the past for my home internet), the Xfinity representative informed me about an account with an account holder (or someone listed on the account) that had my same name, which caused some issues when setting up service at my new address.  The problem was that this account was for a residential property located in a city and state I have never been to before let alone lived in.  I informed the Xfinity representative that this account should not be associated with me at all as I have never lived in or been to this city.  The representative informed me that this was handled, which I thought was the case.

Now, on Septembe 28, 2026, Sequium Asset Solutions, LLC, a debt collection agency, sent me a text indicating they are "a debt collector collecting on behalf of COMCAST for" this Baltimore account.  I immediately called Xfinity on that same day and was told that because the names on the account were similar (or identical it appears) that Xfinity looked up my name on the system and sent Sequium Asset Solutions my telephone number to collect this debt.  Obviously unacceptable because now I have no idea what information Sequium has (my date of birth, name, address, etc.) and this could wind up on my credit report.  On the Sept. 28 call, the Xfinity representative told me the issue had been corrected and that I would not be receiving any additional contact from Sequium.

Wrong.  On October 6, 2026, I got another text from Sequium, although this time it did not contain the Model Validation Notice providing the pertinent information.  So, I called Xfinity again today, Oct. 6, and asked to speak with a supervisor.  I was on the call holding for 52 minutes, and when the supervisor took me off hold, she said she couldn't hear me and was having technical issues and would call right back.  I never got a call back.  I then called back.  I was then told they couldn't help me and that I needed to call 833-549-0792.  I hung up and called this number, but it doesn't accept incoming calls.  I then called a third time.  I was transferred initially to the "Retention Department", then from department to department trying to figure this out.  I was ultimately told that I need to call Sequium to get the full account number for the service at this Baltimore address, which is not going to happen and is an unacceptable response.  I am not going to engage with a collection agency and ask for information on an account I don't own, and more importantly, I'm not going to clean up Xfinity's error in sending my information to Sequium, which can have huge impact on me as a consumer.  Xfinity sending my information for no reason to a collection agency is a clear mistake, it should be Xfinity's obligation to clean it up, not the consumer.

At this point, I'm beyond frustrated and this matter needs to be addressed immediately.  Moreover, and I'm not sure how to make this any clearer than I have in the past, but my contact information should never be shared or associated with an account that I did not set up or own.  Please advise on how to remedy this situation as soon as possible.

user_4reavn Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed explanation of what has occurred. I can absolutely understand your frustration, especially given that you had previously reported this issue and were assured it had been corrected. Based on what you've described, your primary concern is that your contact information appears to have been associated with an account that does not belong to you, resulting in collection attempts regarding a Baltimore, Maryland account with which you have no connection. I also understand your concerns regarding what information may have been shared with the collection agency and the potential impact this could have on you. I sincerely apologize for the experience you've had while trying to resolve this matter, including the multiple transfers, conflicting information, and the lack of a promised callback. I agree that you should not be responsible for correcting an account that you do not own. We'd like the opportunity to investigate this further and ensure the appropriate teams review the account association concerns you've raised. Could you please send our team a Direct Message with your name and service address? Our team can take a further look at this issue.
