Blackout on Big10 Network

Any word about signing expansion agreement with the Big10? Blackouts for Oregon, UW, UCLA, USC are still in effect. Your customers are waiting plus paying for services we are not receiving. I want a refund on my Sports Package if no agreement by 4:30 PDT!!

I pay an additional $8.10 per month for a Regional Sports package that no longer includes the now nonexistent Pac12 Network.  I don’t understand why Big10 Network coverage of Oregon is not being considered an equivalent replacement.

Feels like a pending Class Action lawsuit against Comcast.

@user_inntxf  Hello and good afternoon. Thanks for posting and sharing your thoughts in the community. We appreciate it and are happy you thought of us to assist. We know how important it is to have the entertainment you want. We thank you for letting us know how you feel about the Big10 changes. Games exclusive to Big 10 Network for several college teams are not available through Xfinity or Comcast Business at this time. That means they have a select group of content not granted to us, and that is impacting our customers.

As it is exclusive content to them only, and they are not sharing the rights to air the content through us, it is not available to stream or enjoy through live TV. If you would like to enjoy the content through us, please contact the Big 10 Network directly and ask them to grant Comcast customers all the games available within their network.

We still have many of their games, and some of the missing games can still be found on other channels in your subscription.

  • Say “UCLA football” (or something similar) into the Xfinity Voice Remote .
  • Use the C button on their Xfinity Voice Remote to launch the X1 Sports app.
  • Use the on-screen guide to find affected games that may be available on other channels.
    • Note: the on-screen guide may not be up-to-date, reflecting the wrong program information according to what is actually playing.

If above response is true, why is Comcast the only cable network not carrying Big10 Network games for Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA.

And, if the Big10 Network is not making these games available to Comcast, why is Comcast showing these games in Big10 markets outside the West Coast?

@XfinityBenny I don't want to watch UCLA. I want to be able to watch the HUSKIES every frickin' weekend. You're treating us like dirt, especially when we couldn't watch the Apple Cup on regular TV. This stinks to high heavens.

@XFinityBenny,

Another typical malarky response from a representative with the company line. The truth is that Comcast reports record profits each year and is too cheap to pay the pennies to carry the Big Ten network in the new areas of the Big Ten conference.  Yet many of us are paying $10 a month for their More Sports package that includes the Big Ten Network and they are still blacking it out.

So respond to that XFinityBenny.

Threatening to leave will get you nowhere, let alone a refund. This is a carriage disagreement between Fox and Comcast. The usual story, Fox wants more money to allow Comcast to carry BTN than Comsat wants to pay.

A friend of mine so ticked with Comcast on this dispute that signed up with You Tube and went to the Comcast office to return the cable box and he said he was not the only one as the line was out the door and lined up down the sidewalk of people who were cutting the cable and turning in the cable box.  He said that the unfortunate thing was that people were yelling at the representatives in the store who have nothing to do with this of blacking out the Big Ten network. Instead the blame goes to Comcast senior management who made this decision.

Has the blackout already started because I'm watching the Oregon/Idaho game right now on the CW via Xfinity. I would put most of the blame on Fox who is not negotiating in good faith because of the retransmission fees they want Comcast to pay. Comcast can afford it but that cost will eventually be passed on to the customer a usual.

The game on CW is the Idaho State at Oregon State and not the Idaho at Oregon game.

I am a Diamond Rewards customer. Why can't I watch Oregon Ducks football games on Comcast? All year long, I look forward to watching the Ducks play football. You can imagine how disappointed I was when week one came and I had to go to a bar to watch the game. The bar had YouTube TV. Turns out I have a friend with YouTube TV. They could watch the game. I could not. If this isn't fixed soon, I may be tempted to switch content provider. Please fix this. QUESTION If and when Comcast and the Big10 reach an agreement, must I subscribe to the Big10 network to watch the game? Or will my existing service provide access (like it used to when Oregon was still in the Pac12)? Please advise.

@user_20d824 FOX owns 61% of the BTN now and it's them, FOX, who is making the carriage fees demands on Comcast. Comcast feels it's too much so they are in negotiations now. However, as is typical of content owners, they pull their network feeds as a "bargaining chip" to force the content providers to meet their demands. Of course the customers are caught in the middle and put the blame entirely on Comcast when in truth it's both. These carriage fees negotiations usually happen around the starting of a new sports season or when the other content providers (MAX, NF, Prime, etc) start their new seasons. Affiliate owners do the same thing (ABC, FOX, CBS, etc) when contracts need to be renegotiated.

EVERY time we see a response from an "Xfinity" representative the story changes.  It's everyone's fault except Comcast !!!!  You are all responsible for this mess because of CORPORATE GREED !!!!!  Here it is Thursday AGAIN and nothing is being done to correct the issue by ANYONE !

We Apologize for any inconvenience, this is not a technical issue. We do not have the rights, currently, to broadcast games airing on Big 10 Network for the following teams:

  • University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)
  • University of Oregon (U of O)
  • University of Washington (UW)
  • University of Southern California (USC)
  •

Most of the games for these universities may be available on other channels, networks, or streaming platforms.

You can:

  • Say “UCLA football” (or something similar) into your Xfinity Voice Remote .
  • Use the C button on their Xfinity Voice Remote  to launch the X1 Sports app.
  • Use the on-screen guide to find affected games that may be available on other channel

We appreciate your understanding.

I was just about to add the sports package upgrade to view BIG10 network in Sacramento, CA. I'm glad I did a little research first.

Comcast you need to pay whoever you need to to make this service available to your customers. If not I’m canceling with Comcast as soon as my contract expires. Do the right thing for your customers.

@XfinityMartyR why do you waste our time with these canned responses about Comcast shortcomings ?  ALL of us that are paying extra for the BIG10 Network are well aware that Comcast is refusing to get this resolved with FOX Sports (Owners of the BIG10 Network) !

@user_mfdc9y - that's the problem. What makes you think that Comcast doesn't think that it is "doing the right thing" by not putting the channel on its Popular tier (what I assume most people have) and paying whatever amount Fox (which co-owns the network) is asking, then passing the costs onto the customers, most of whom don't care one bit about watching any Big Ten sports?

It comes down to, how many people would leave if Comcast didn't cave in, as opposed to how many would leave if it did?

Here it is another College football Saturday.   Comcast is still not doing anything to resolve this problem.   Not listening to its customers but taking our money for a service not provided to us.   I am on a top tier sports package but still will not get any live coverage on the Big 10 network and Oregon, Washington,USC and UCLA no matter what the sport.   Poor customer service and tone deaf to its customers.   This needs to be resolved!!
