New ESPN app

With the new ESPN app coming out on August 21, will I be able to use my Xfinity account to live stream using that service?

I asked the same question a few threads down... I don't think Comcast has made an official statement yet, but I'm really hoping so!

adam_WM Thanks for reaching out about the ESPN streaming app. This is the information we have at this time about their app: The ESPN streaming app is available on compatible X1 TV Boxes and Xumo Stream Boxes, requiring Xfinity Internet service and either ESPN as part of your Xfinity TV service or a subscription to ESPN+. Users can access live and On Demand content from various ESPN channels, including ESPN3 and ESPN+. To watch, users must log in with their TV provider credentials or subscribe to ESPN+. The app offers a range of sports programming, including live events and original content. Note that certain older TV boxes are not compatible with the app. Hope this helps answer your question.

Please see the link below about the new service I am referencing. I have seen multiple reports of most cable networks including this through authentication. Xfinity is not among them, I hope they will be in the near future.

I have no information about any "new" app though to be able to confirm if it will be the same as the current app.

The new ESPN app launches tomorrow and is the host of all WWE PLEs so authentication thru my xfinity account is essential to me.  According to reporting xfinity is not one of the providers that will give us access thru authentication at this point.  Hopefully they remedy this before September or I’ll be looking at other options.

user_7m2gnf Just checking in. Since the new app has launched have you had any issues with the authentication?

@hwkn   This is ridiculous. Why can’t we have this app NOW. If this is not available soon, I am finally cutting the cord and $300+ I pay to Comcast each month.

Hello Finus_Gaston ESPN+ is fully live and active on X1-enabled cable boxes, and can be accessed by saying" ESPN+" into the X1 voice remote. I just tried this myself, and it took me right into the app.

@user_vpxlw1 - I understand your frustration and the confusion surrounding the new ESPN app, ESPN Unlimited, and our relationship with it. This is a common concern for many users right now.

Here's a breakdown of the situation:

The distinction between ESPN channels and ESPN+ (now ESPN Select)

- ESPN Channels (like ESPN, ESPN2, etc.): Your Xfinity TV subscription gives you access to the live feeds and on-demand content from these channels. When you log into the ESPN app with your Xfinity credentials, you are authenticating your access to this content.

- ESPN+ (now called ESPN Select): This is a separate, subscription-based streaming service. It has its own library of content, including live events (like certain college sports, UFC, and international soccer) and original shows and documentaries. An Xfinity TV package that includes the standard ESPN channel does not automatically include a subscription to ESPN+.

Why you can't watch ESPN+ content

The reason you are seeing the ESPN+ logo on some shows and not being able to watch them is that you don't have a subscription to that specific service. While you are logged into the ESPN app, your Xfinity credentials only unlock the content that is part of your TV package.

The new "ESPN Unlimited" plan and Xfinity

The new ESPN Unlimited plan is a direct-to-consumer streaming service that combines all of ESPN's linear networks (like ESPN, ESPN2, etc.) and the ESPN+ content into one single subscription. This is a new offering designed for people interested in removing cable service and getting all of ESPN's content in one place.

- The key issue for our customers is that ESPN Unlimited is currently NOT available through Xfinity.

- This means that for the time being, our customers who want to access ESPN+ content will need to purchase a separate subscription to the ESPN Select plan (the new name for the standalone ESPN+ service).

What you can do:

1. Check your Xfinity package: Double-check your Xfinity TV package to confirm exactly which ESPN channels are included. You can do this on your Xfinity account page.

2. Purchase a separate ESPN Select subscription: If you want to watch the content with the ESPN+ logo, you will need to sign up for ESPN Select. You can do this directly through the ESPN app. It will give you a separate account to log in with.

3. Stay informed: Keep an eye on announcements from both ESPN and us. It's possible that we may reach a new agreement in the future to include ESPN Unlimited with certain Xfinity packages.

The situation is confusing because of the new app and service names, but the fundamental issue remains: your cable TV package gives you access to the channels, while a separate subscription is required for the streaming-only content. Please let me know if this helps!

It's not espn+ that everyone is asking about. It's the new espn unlimited app that just started last week. We need comcast to make a deal so everyone can access all the features of it, through authentication, including wwe premium live events. Make a deal very soon.

You are exactly right. It is like Xfinity is clueless that ESPN rolled out a new platform last week.  The Wall Street Journal listed a variety of Xfinity competitors who are already providing the new APP to its customers.  But once again, Xfinity buries their head in the sand and pretends this great new ESPN offering does not exist.  It is almost as if they want to lose all their TV bundle customers and simply focus on Peacock. We have become nothing but an irritant to Xfinity.

user_cac9fc I love the ability to sign into network websites and apps with my Xfinity credentials! You can keep an eye on all the netowrk sites we support here. We're working to expand access and content choices for even more options in the future!
