Root Sports Channel

Root Sports continues to have technical issues during the Seattle Mariners game today. Is this a root sports issue or is it an Xfinity issue?

June 8, 2025 ...I've complained to Xfinity about this. 

Today's game was unwatchable for us..all garbled, pixilated and frozen picture. Xfinity told me it was on our end. 
No- it's not, ALL our other networks/channels are fine. ONLY network that is unwatchable is Root Sports.

Last month when I contacted them to complain about this very same issue, they said they would send a technician out to our house but it would most likely be at our expense.

Root Sports is CONSTANTLY garbled during games many times making it almost impossible to watch. Please fix this issue. I have gone on chat to inquire about this yet nothing is done to fix it.

They... like many of us... seem to be having trouble ONLY on Root NW. In my case, it's through my Xfinity cable box. Pixellation / freezing intermittently through Mariners games (about all I watch on Root), and it happens on all my TVs when it occurs. Getting really annoying, seems to be happening a LOT this season.

We have the same problem. We do not experience this with any other channel. We are watching the Mariner’s game on Root sports through our xfinity cable box on xfinity in the area code 97068. The broadcast is constantly freezing and pixelating, making it unwatchable. This happens on the game coverage as well as the commercial breaks between innings. The problem has been particularly severe during coverage of today’s game live broadcast 1-4pm June 8

The poor reception on ROOT is still an issue. Constant lockups/no sound/garbled picture. We have to pay for the premium tier for this channel and we've had this issue for over a month now. No other channel has this problem. I'd really like to know why this isn't being fixed!

Having the same issue.  Pixelated , freezing and poor picture and it is
ROOT Sports ONLY. The games and the commercials on both the hd and regular stations are poor quality. 
Xfinity made us pay for this upgraded tier package to get Root and the quality is poor. 
Xfinity, please reply to this thread with an answer as to when this will be fixed.

I’m having the same issues noted below and it’s making me rethink keeping cable. I pay extra to get this channel and the Mariners games are unwatchable. I’m missing key plays and can’t hear commentary. Replays aren’t helpful because they are just as pixelated as the game.

We have also experienced this problem (Mariner’s games, broadcast on Root, other channels not affected) and the problem is particularly acute in the game being broadcast right now: 1:49 pm, June 9th. The coverage is constantly freezing and pixelating making the game unwatchable. We are located in the 97068 area code. Please get to the bottom of this problem.

So bottom of the 8th (June 8th) the whole game has been unwatchable!!  This has been happening with the last several games but today is the worse!! This needs to be addressed!

I agree with you user_164egb.  I upgrade to the higher tier to watch the Seattle Mariners on Root Sports.  Yesterday evening and this afternoon it was terrible.  I spent more time switching back and forth to watch the game.  We do not have any problem with the other channels, just ROOT sports.  Please figure out what is causing this and fix it.  It is obviously not just me that is having this problem.

Same problem here!  Yesterdays game was totally unwatchable (June 8), but there have been many games with the same issue.  Mariner's games are the only reason we upgraded our Xfinity tier.   All other channels are fine.

We’re having the same issue watching Mariners games for a month or more. We thought it was just Root Sports, but have since discovered TNT and TBS have the same problem so now we can’t watch the Stanley Cup finals either. They reset everything which made no difference then gave us a new box to try just in case I guess also made no difference. We can get the game with the Xfinity Stream app but that doesn’t allow pausing or rewind so not an equivalent option especially since it is every single game now. We also are in the premium package simply because they moved Root Sports. Grrr

MicheleS50 I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing a similar issue with Root Sports and other channels too. This is not the experience we would like you to have. If the pixelation is happening on other channels, it could be an issue with your signal. Have you done any troubleshooting aside from changing the box? Such as checking the coaxial connection on both ends or restarting the box through the Xfinity App. Have we opened any tickets for this concern before?

Hi we have been having issues with Root especially. TBS was unviewable recently but has settled down. Root though we could not even access the game today. Will Root's problem be resolved 6/16/25?

Hi, we are still experiencing viewability issues on the Root Chanel, TBS, and TNT. We have powered off the modem but that did not resolve the problem. The 3 channels in the morning are ok, but in the evening they pixelate and are unviewable.  Can't watch my favorite baseball team the Mariners until this is resolved.

I am having the issue when I record it on my xfinity box to watch later. No other recordings are pixalted or bad, just root sports. Please fix! Watching my recorded mariners game is just awful.

I can't keep up with the Xfinity tiers. 

I have an Xfinity cable box on my downstairs TV, and a TiVO box on the upstairs TV. The TiVO box shows Root Sports just fine. The downstairs TV shows an error when I try to access Root. I after numerous calls to support I swapped out the cable box at the Comcast store for a new box (same model). The problem persists, and the foreign support people now say I will need to pay $100 in order to have a technician come to my home. 

After 30+ years I'm nearing the end with Comcast/Xfinity.

No offense but Xfinity is clearly cutting back on customer support and making it increasingly difficult to get help from a live US-based tech support person.
