Annoying texts about UNUSED equipment

I keep getting texts that say

Hi, Xfinity here. Reminder: Return your UNUSED Xfinity equipment today to reduce your monthly bill & protect the environment.

As far as I know the only unused equipment I have is the useless streaming box I was forced to accept a few years ago, and I'm not paying anything for that. I own my own Cablemodem and router and have no TV box. Do they do this to everyone, or am I just that special?

@12xuser If you are referring to the Xumo or Flex box that was not purchased, you would in fact be renting that equipment from us even if it is not charging you to use it monthly. The equipment can be reused for our streaming service and if you're not using the service and the box is still registered to your account, there would be inactive equipment or unreturned equipment charges. Check out the equipment return article for all of our available options to get that device back to us.

There are no line items on my bill for equipment.

I completely understand where you are coming from, @12xuser. The Flex Box or Xumo box would be a free streaming box. If that has been removed from our services it would not show even as a free item. The device would still be attached to your account on the back end, and be the reason from the communication. We would recommend returning the device as soon as possible to the nearest Xfinity Store, or we do contract with UPS. UPS will box it up, label it and ship back to us at no cost to you. Please let us know if you have any other questions/concerns, we are happy to help!
