Assistance with Mobile Activation Without SSN

Hello Xfinity Mobile Team,

I recently set up internet service at my home in Ann Arbor, Michigan through Xfinity. The plan includes a one-year mobile service.

I am an F-1 international student and do not have a Social Security Number (SSN).
When I tried to activate the mobile service through the app, it required me to provide an SSN.

Could you please advise how I can activate my mobile service using the included one-year plan without an SSN?
I would appreciate your guidance and support.

Hello and thank you for choosing Xfinity, user_4rz1fe! To help protect your account and personal information, you may be asked to provide a bit more verification when placing an Xfinity Mobile order. You can verify your identity through phone, text message, or email, and you’ll also need to upload a photo of your ID. This is part of Comcast’s commitment to keeping your account secure.

This support article outlines the acceptable forms of identification, including answers to questions like:

What forms of ID are accepted by Xfinity Mobile?
Why is a Social Security Number (SSN) requested?
Please know that providing your SSN is not mandatory. If you’d prefer, you can verify your account using the last four digits of your previous payment method (credit card or checking account) or your 16-digit account number.

We understand that security and privacy are important to you — they’re important to us too. We're here to make this process as smooth and safe as possible.

user_f8w15s, Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. Just to confirm, are you wanting to activate a mobile phone or tablet with XFINITY Mobile or Now Mobile like in this link here?

@XfinityGabriel Hi, I got a free 1-year unlimited phone plan when I bought an internet plan. When I try to set up the phone plan on either the xfinity website or in the app it always says that an ssn is required to proceed. The steps to set up the plan is not as described in your link.

So my question is if I'm allowed to verify my identity through some other form of identification how do I do that? Who would I need to contact to do so?

user_f8w15s Thank you for explaining the situation in additional detail for us. To answer your question, there are some options that would depend on personal preference. In my opinion, the easiest way to verify your identification for Xfinity Mobile is through a text message or email. You will receive a request to upload a photo of your ID. Follow the link provided in the message, and submit images of the front and back of a valid state-issued ID, driver's license, or passport. Ensure the photos are clear and taken in good lighting. Complete this process within 72 hours of placing your order to avoid cancellation.

You also have the option of visiting a store location in person to share your identification information. Now one other thing I do want to mention is that an SSN is required to sign up for Xfinity Mobile. This requirement is in place to verify our customer's identity and to prevent fraud. Without an SSN, you would be unable to purchase Xfinity Mobile service. However, NOW Mobile is an alternative option that doesn't require an SSN.

@XfinityMarcus Hi, the only reason I want to switch to the unlimited phone plan is because it is FREE and I’m not interested in purchasing something else. If there are no other allowed way of verifying my identity then I’m not interested.
It would have been nice if that was advised on the website so I didn’t have to waste hours trying to figure this out.

user_f8w15s That is a completely understandable point, however I will say that the use of a SSN is mostly standard practice in the cellular industry as a result of the increasing need for account security. While our NOW Service is not free, it may still be much cheaper than what you are currently paying for service with your existing provider. I would be happy to share some more information with you in a direct message. Can you send one over with your full name and complete service address?

Here's the detailed steps to direct message us:
• Click "Sign In" if necessary
• Click the "Direct Messaging" icon (upper right corner of this page)
• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
• Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list
• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
• Press Enter to send your message.
