I hate xfinity’s equipment i have been with them for 5 years

The customer service is horrible i feel like this company does not want to help me. I am an work from home employee, going to medical billing/coding school online and avid gamer. I have the 1 gig plan and my xfinity router keeps dropping connection. I have had 3 techs come out and replaced 6 modems. I need reliability but i feel like the equipment I keep being giving is broken (lemon) and i keep getting bad equipment. Has anyone used Netgear CBR750 or the ARRIS G36 successfully with your internet? Can you tell me how your experience was setting up and how the quality of your internet is now? Also if you game online how is it compared to when you used xfinity’s equipment?

Good morning @sjsharksgirl86, and thanks for reaching out to us on the Xfinity Forums, I hope you are having a good day! As someone that works from home and is also an avid gamer, I can definitely understand the need for a reliable connection, and I am sorry to hear that you are having so many issues with yours, but you have reached the right team that can take a look for you. I just have a few questions about the issue you are having. When you lose connection to the internet, does it seem to happen to all the devices? The devices that you use for work and/or gaming, are they connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, or hardwired to the modem? When the connection drops, how long does it take before the connection comes back on, and do you have to manually restart the modem?

@XfinityJeff yes it happens all time of the day and all devices I have random kids sitting on my staircase trying to steal my internet. It comes back and then drops again. I have some hardwired and some WiFi. I live in an apartment complex so making changes to the wiring is not an option.

Thank you @sjsharksgirl86 for the information. You mentioned that there are people connecting to your Wi-Fi. Not sure if you have had a chance to check it, but with the Xfinity app you can see a list of all the devices connected to the Wi-Fi and if there are any devices on your network that you don't recognize you can pause them with the steps here, so that if anyone is trying to use the Wi-Fi, you can stop them from accessing it. If you do see a lot of devices you don't recognize, I would also recommend changing the password for the Wi-Fi. We can also take a look at the account and see if there are any issues poping up on the modem. Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

We have changed the password multiple times and they keep joining that’s why I was thinking about trying the netgear or the arris to see if my experience got better

@sjsharksgirl86 There is another setting in the Xfinity app that you can also try. There is an ability to disable the Wi-Fi network name from broadcasting, that way if you were to change it, and then turn off the name from broadcasting, someone would have to know the exact name to be able to connect to the network. That setting can be found here. If you still want to purchase a new device, there are a few options. If you just want a router for Wi-Fi, you can still use the Xfinity modem and put it in bridge mode, which disables the Wi-Fi from our modem, so that you can use another router without interference. If you want a new modem, you can purchase one as well, and can find information on compatible modems here.
