Mark Underground Cable

I need the underground cable marked for my landscaper who will be doing some digging and edging around the house.

Hi there! Great question, and we’re glad you checked before any digging, that’s always the safest move.

For marking underground lines, you’ll want to contact 811 (Call Before You Dig). That’s a free nationwide service that notifies all utility providers, including Xfinity, to come out and mark their lines on your property.

You can either call 811 or submit a request online at Call 811. Once the request is submitted, technicians will come out and mark the lines, usually within a few business days.

We definitely recommend doing this before any digging or landscaping to avoid damage and keep everyone safe. Let us know if you have any questions along the way!

The concern is not "accessibility / disability" help related............ Topic moved here to the proper help section.

I called 811 to have my line marked. I got an email from Comcast’s saying there are no lines

we know there are lines and need them marked. Who do I call?

Greetings @user_hvzt8t, and thanks for posting your question to the Xfinity forums, I hope this message finds you well. It is possible that there are lines that are buried in your yard, but if you called 811 and were told that there are no Comcast lines, then it is possible that there are some from another provider.

I am getting irrigation installed at my home and submitted a request with 811 and comcast to locate buried lines. Comcast promptly closed the case "No conflict" we know for fac that there are buried lines on the property.  I filed a second notice with 811 and called comcast directly.  Comcast sent out a technician who showed up at my home ready to install and setup my new service??? This is ridiculous.

I work from home and cant be without internet should the irrigation contractor cut a line on accident because comcast didn't mark them.

I too had the same issue.  Within an hour of my 811 request, I got a "No Conflict" email.  I know that the new underground downspout drain line will cross my internet cable.  The email said to contact Florida's contractor "ITG Location Services at [Edited: "Non-Comcast Phone Number"].  I couldn't understand the customer service agent because of his out of country language accent.  He did say 811 requests get an automated response "no conflict".  He continued by saying he would pass my concern off to his supervisor.  This is absolutely the most frustrating experience and a total failure of customer service.

I have the same issue - I have xfinity in my house and I know the line is there. The locator in our area - On The Spot. They claim it is not in their contract to mark the lines from the pedestal to the customers house, that’s considered a private locate. That is total [Edited: “Inappropriate Language”] - ATT and metronet get marked- but that’s only because they use a different locate service…..might be time to switch. I have spent hours trying to get the line located. I have been informed by JULIE that it is well documented and that if the line is cut it won’t be my fault and that the claim it’s not part of On The Spot contract is incorrect. If Xfinity really didn’t include it in their contract with the locate company than Xfinity is extremely cheap for what they make customers pay!

Thank you for sharing your experience @user_vi4x96 on our Xfinity Community forums.

I can certainly understand how frustrating it would be to spend hours trying to get clarity on the location of your service line, especially when you've received conflicting information from different parties. We appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback and explain the challenges you've encountered.

In most areas the property owner or excavator is solely responsible for locating and hiring a private company to mark private utilities, because free public "811" one-call services only mark publicly owned infrastructure up to the utility meter or point of connection (in some cases outside the property line.)

To better understand the situation, can you let us know what type of work you are planning to have completed on your property? For example, are you preparing for landscaping, fencing, excavation, construction, or another project? Any additional details about the planned work may help provide more context regarding the locate request and the concerns you've raised.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to learning more about your project.
