No NESN or NBC Sports Boston

I tried to watch the bruins on NESN as I usually do and got a message that said I need a subscription. I then flipped to NBC sports Boston (home of the Celtics) and got the same message. How is it possible that when I pay $220+ per month for cable I can’t even watch my local teams?

Hello user_gyuqt8, the two networks you mentioned have been moved to our Ultimate TV channel lineup. In order to get these networks you'd need to be subscribed to that lineup. We've already begun notifying anyone who is impacted. I'm a big sports fan too, and heading into the middle of the hockey and basketball season, I can see why this would be something you're reaching out about. Would you be ok with working with me to find options to get that upgrade on your account to continue enjoying these channels?

@XfinityMarcos I appreciate the willingness to discuss and I would like to find a way to continue using Xfinity, but if the only option is to pay for a new upgraded package when I’m already paying $220/month then I’m not sure I can continue.

user_gyuqt8 Our team is dedicated to provide our support through the forums, we do have great phone and in-person support available if that was the desired way to communicate. We would love to help explore some new options, unfortunately, we just do not have an option to provide those specific channels within the same tier of service.

@user_gyuqt8 Just spoke with Xfinity customer care folks. my bill was jumping by $60 a month to keep nesn, nbc sports boston, nhl channel, nfl network and like 20 other channels i never knew i even had. I had the ultimate at 237 but zero justification for that type of increase. i get it, local sports, fees, etc but that doesnt justify a 25% increase. Fios not here yet but soon, been knocking on doors about upcoming service so maybe down the round but opted to go to popular, bill stays 237. Since today is the big change day, curious to see if there is any change from xfinity since have to believe folks complaining very loudly too them.

No, I don’t subscribe to the Ultimate package. As of yesterday the package I have included NESN. Today it doesn’t.

I’m not going to pay Xfinity $20 more to upgrade, your costs are already too high and the value I get far too low to spend another $240 per year.

I’ll find another way to watch the game using a streaming service.

i should probably thank Xfinity in advance, imagine the savings when I cancel my cable service!

@jsg14 same... price gouging! I'm a 70 year old handicapped senior on extremely tight budget (social security). I'm homebound, live alone... my one source of enjoyment was watching Celts, Sox & Bruins on NESN & NBC Sports Boston.😪 now must cancel (20 year customer... $250+ per month). Cruel, especially for seniors who recieve no discount options from Xfinity. Extremely depressed.

Opposite of every business practice to hold onto customers. I pay $3400 a year, mine as well burn that money.

I'm on your side, and agree with everything you've said...

I spent the time yesterday to call Xfinity. I was on hold roughly ten minutes, which wasn't bad. However, what happened next was very bad...

I ended up speaking with Punit who was stationed in India. Glad to know that my Xfinity cable subscription money is being put to good use, and supporting US workers.

I was inquiring about the email I had received from Xfinity regarding NBC Sports and NESN no longer being available under my plan. I wanted to know if this was true, and how could I continue to have access to NESN?

After being placed on hold multiple times, and after 'Punit' had spoken to "his supervisor," I was informed that I would continue to have access to NBC Sports and NESN after January 14th. I was also told that the email I had received was Spam. Now, I work in IT, and can decipher phishing emails.

I was guaranteed that I'd have access to NESN today, and could watch the Bruins. Today came around and I could not watch my local Bruins game (insert angry face)!!

So incredibly happy that we pay over $200/month and are given [Edited: "Language"], useless channels to watch, and cannot watch the channels that we want to watch!!

Better yet, I love the fact that Xfinity lies to us, and gives us [Edited: "Language"] non-US customer service!!

Thank you for reaching out to us @user_0zkucc! We sincerely apologize for the misinformation. As of 1/14/25 NBC Sports Boston and New England Sports Network were moved to the Ultimate TV package.

We pay programmers like networks, local TV station owners, regional sports network (RSN) owners and others for the ability to bring their content to customers, and this includes sports programming. We regularly review this programming and sometimes makes changes to ensure customers receive a wide variety of content at the best value. A variety of factors are evaluated, including customer viewership and costs, when making these decisions. As a result, channels, including RSNs, may periodically be added, removed or moved to different packages.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address? Our team would love the opportunity to look at our available options for the Ultimate channel lineup with you. To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary
Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Why should I reach out to your team: so you can feed me more lies; so you can charge me more $$ for something I had included in my plan yesterday?

If you lose all your customers to streaming services - will it be worth having increased the cost of all our subscriptions?

You have none. Wasted my time today “chatting” with customer service. How stupid can Xfinity be??? Imagine when spring training starts and Xfinity customers that haven’t paid attention to the notification can’t watch.

It’s an outrage!!!!! Whoever made that decision is ultimately going to be fired!!

Canceling xfinity tomorrow. This is absurd.

22 Messages

Me too. I pay $3500 a year for premium hbo Netflix.  And now can’t watch Celtics and still pay sports fees. [Edited: "Language"] You should be giving us more to

secure business. You will be obsolete when current seniors pass.

I don’t have a college degree, but smarter move would be to give more to subscribers not keep taking and charging more.  I need to take a half day off just to wait on hold and ultimately never talk to a person. Great way to keep

loyalty.

I can’t believe this, what an embarrassment money grab over and over. I’ve been curious about YouTube tv for awhile now. As others have mentioned. Good luck with your bankruptcy apparently we aren’t good enough to get Red Sox bruins and Celtics games

The Ultimate package is $80 more a month than the popular package, which had NESN.  Do you think it's worth $1000 a year extra to watch the last place red sox and the mediocre Bruins?

1 Message

NESN Stream is 180/yr as a promotion, then $330/y after.  That is cheaper than the Ultimate package but having cable tv shouldn't require streaming services to supplement what would be expected at this price point.  Very unhappy with Xfinity and NESN, especially for these teams.  John Henry should be ashamed.

@user_dx7qh3 can’t wait to switch. Actually if another format were twice as expensive I’d gladly hand deliver my money each month. I just don’t even bother calling, no need for the tease to talk to a person.

1 Message

I was on the phone and chat with Comcast for 4 continuous hours yesterday attempting to get this resolved only to discovered that I was moved to the wrong plan and still do not have NESN and NBC Sports Boston.  I then almost signed a second new plan only to discover that my internet speed would drop from 800 to 200 mbps.  Finally at 9:40 p.m. my call was dropped.  I believe the Secretary of State should get involved in this matter.    This seems to be unfair and deceptive business practices in violation of the Consumer Protection Act.

22 Messages

I will hand deliver twice the money I pay Comcast to any other provider. So fed up with these increases and less service. I take off a half day from work for privilege to  meander through a pointless endless maze of uselessness, only to realize it’s a tease, you can NEVER get anyone on the phone.

1 Message

@user_rmtfk7 similar experience about an hour and half on chat to so they could call me, then spent another hour so so on call. Finally asked to be transfered to supervisor, that phone rang for 5 minutes then the call was dropped.

I also agree that this is completely unacceptable business practice. You removed the station showing the Boston Bruins in the middle of the season with minimal warning and now want us to upgrade to a more expensive package when we already pay over $210 per month. How can cable be this expensive and not include the station that shows the local sports teams? We agree to contracts, pay high prices, and you get to make changes as you see fit and then charge us more; why do we continue to do business with you? We will begin the process today of canceling our cable tv service and switching over to a streaming service, or just listen to the games on the radio (that is still free!).

The absolute worst telephone customer service I have ever encountered from any type of business anywhere. The worst by far.

1 Message

I am currently on hold with customer service (going on an hour.) I was at the Xfinity store two days ago to downgrade my plan as I’m not using most of the channels. I was told I could not downgrade as it would cost me more (I would still have three products🤷‍♀️) Yet they just randomly dropped their sports channels (really only thing my husband watches) and that’s okay for them to change. Does this mean we pay less for the Popular package as we are getting less? Let’s see if I get that answer when they finally get me off of hold😡

I am thoroughly disgusted with Xfinity and currently looking to drop them. We are limited with service in the area, but I see other companies in the area hooking up cable, so switching as soon as I can. Have been a customer for over 45 years and I am looking forward to them suffering with so much customer loss. This is not how you do business!

I got the email and dropped them within the hour. Switching back to Fidium for Internet and $108 a month for DirecTV stream. Saving $60 and don't have to deal with the Xfinity [Edit: Language] anymore.

Current bill is $237. if i want nesn, nbc boston sports, nfl network and a few other channels, bill goes to $297. I enjoy watching bruins, red sox but not for an extra $60 a month. terrible decision even though you claim the real fans now paying those extra fees and you are not.

Wow. Xfinity you screwed up big. At least I'm not alone in my frustration with this absolute joke of a company.

1 Message

@XfinitySheila   No, why should we all have to contact you with our address.   The entire state of Massachusetts got screwed over by this.    My plan would go up over $75 a month, that's $900 a year to keep the same two channels I had before.    How on earth can Comcast justify this?   I don't want to be offered an introductory rate that'll just go up in a year or two.   We want the plans that we signed up for.   This is bait and switch, plain and simple.   The crazy thing is I can't even downgrade from 125 channels to 10 channels without paying an INCREASE!  How is this even possible?   It absolutely sucks that I rely on Comcast for internet for work, and you have a monopoly in our area or I'd drop you completely.   But I am defintielly looking to put my business somewhere else.  This is nothing but pure greed.   This does not provide customers with "options" as the email stated.  This takes away options.  Shame on you Comcast.

2 Messages

@XfinitySheila With all due respect, you keep responding to customers here with the same [Edited: Language].....'sorry for the inconvenience', 'we can review other pricing options for you'[Edited: Language]. I totally understand it will be a total waste of my time, but I am filing a complaint with the MA Attorney General.
