Our Condo Community is Moving to "SuperFast" Internet Plan : will an XB3 temporarily "work" at its lower 400MBPS speed ?

Hello, our condominium community is a seasonal mountain property and our 400MBPS plan is moving to the "SuperFast" plan starting July 1st.   Many of our owners will not be able to 'switch out' their current XB3 gateways to the new XB8 fast gateway till later in the fall since they do not come up to the property till the winter.

Two questions:

1) Will the XB3 gateways still work at that lower 400 MBPS speed temporarily so that their Wifi will work with their currently networked devices (heat, water leak, camera) tillthey get up there to make the change?

2) Will we get penalized for not returning those older XB3 gateways until they are able to come up later and make the change?

Thank you!

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Congratulations on the new speeds! I can understand the concern, especially if you have services running with the internet while you are away. If you are not able to have the equipment updated, which can happen by having a technician make the change, have you stop by in store or have us ship the new equipment out to you, then you can still use the current modem at reduced speeds (not the updated ones)

If you do happen to update your equipment but are not able to return the old one yet, you may see a charge for an unreturned device after 10 days. This is about the same as a monthly modem rental amount. Once you are able to return in store or send back to us, this will be removed and the charge prorated.

Thank you very much for the reply. So if an owner does NOT order their new superfast gateway, their current XB3 will continue to work and they will not see these charges come up on their bill for the XB3 ? It sounds like the 10 day clock starts from the day they  order the new Superfast router ???  Thank You !!!!!!

My apologies for the typo it is 14 days not 10. This allows for shipment and/or processing of the equipment removal. If the equipment is not removed from the account within 30 days, then, a monthly fee applies.

I would also like to share this article on'How to Return Your Xfinity Equipment' for a more detailed process on returning the equipment unless your condominium community provides you with a different return process.
