Request for EPON Member-Owned Router Provisioning – xb7 / ONU

I recently moved and now have xfinity fiber rather than cable. I had a tech come out for a pro install upon moving this week, and I have now also spent a few hours already chatting with support, but not finding anyone who can provide what I need.

I have my own Firewalla Gold Pro network and would like to use my existing gateway directly connected to the ONU, eliminating the need for the xb7. Xfinity introduced support for member-owned routers on eligible EPON fiber installations in July 2026, including WiFi Ready properties (which is what mine is, confirmed by the xfinity tech when he came on site, verified by his supervisor as well).

Here are the support articles confirming the functionality:

1. https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/memberowned-router-options-for-xfinity-fiber-service-epon/6a6cb9c0b3ed1847a0acc1cf

2. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/member-owned-router-fiber-internet

Please escalate this request to the appropriate EPON fiber provisioning team to:

  1. Remove the xb7 as the active gateway and provision the ONU to support my customer-owned router directly.

  2. Confirm that my Firewalla Gold Pro gateway can receive a public IPv4 address directly from the ONU.

This request is very similar to the one linked below on the forums. It seems that customer chat support and onsite techs are not able to understand and/or escalate the provisioning request across cases:

Thank you!

This is not resolved for now, despite support doing what they can. Support is encountering an issue/system limitation on the back-end that is not allowing for the xb7 to be removed in spite of the fact that my address is eligible for using my own router with the EPON (as laid out above). I am awaiting an escalation for a higher level tech to fix the back-end so that the xb7 can be removed and my own equipment can be added. I will update as this gets resolved.
