Scam call for security update on my router. (possible data leak)

I received a call from "xfinity" from an unknown number this morning asking me to do a security update on my router. tried getting my to donwload ultraviewerPC (dead scam giveaway right there) but what I find troubling is that when I asked him to confirm he was comcast, he gave me my billing email, address and the last 4 digits of the card on file so me thinks there has been some kind of data leak.

Id change every security detail you can folks as this is extremely troubling.

I have received at least one call a day for the last 2 weeks saying they are from Comcast and need to make security update my router and say they have been trying to do it  remotely and now need to 'take over my computer' to  do it. I know they are all scams and tell them so but seems like they are ramping up.  This used to happen every now and then but WOW. All show caller ids from different numbers of course so blocking them does nothing. I know you can't really do much about this but just wanted to say how often I am getting these calls. Its very troubling.

You're right, @TerriB — this is both alarming and incredibly frustrating. I completely understand how upsetting it must be to get these calls so often, especially when they’re trying to pressure you into giving up control of your computer. I wish there were more we could do to stop them directly, but unfortunately, these scammers are persistent and use spoofed numbers to get around blocking. You're doing exactly the right thing by recognizing it as a scam and not engaging with them.

Educating our customers really is our best defense here — the more people who know what to watch for, the harder it is for these scams to succeed. Thanks for sharing your experience; it helps us keep the conversation going and warn others, too.

If you ever have doubts about a call, you can always reach out to us directly to confirm. We’re here to help.
