Unlimited data on new Internet plans
I am very interested in moving to the new Internet plans that Xfinity announced this week. Mostly it's for the unlimited data transfer but the cost saving would probably be good too. However, when I asked Xfinity for more details the answers didn't seem to match the press release. The press release says "All plans include Unlimited Data and the Xfinity WiFi Gateway with the ultimate WiFi controls and cybersecurity protection". To me this says it has Unlimited Data AND comes with the gateway. I don't see any clauses that using the gateway is required to receive the unlimited data transfer.
Looking to confirm how this deal works I chatted with, and called, Xfinity support. Both people told me that the unlimited data was contingent on using the gateway, which counters how I read it. When I asked for a TOS that stated this, they weren't able to come up with it. I also asked if I could turn off the router and wireless functionality of the modem. One support person said yes, the other said they weren't sure but thought you could only disable the wireless. I'm fine using the provided modem as a modem but do not want it as a router at all.
Can someone clarify how these plans work and if the modem can be relegated to purely a router?
