Vandalism caused many hours of outage, but what about the obvious lack of redundancy/resiliency?
I live near Seattle and for the second time this year some vandals cut the fiber cable and it took Xfinity over a day to fix it.
Xfinity then sends post-morten explaining that vandalism can cut service, etc, and that's fine. Those vandals are criminals and I hope they get caught and sent to prison given the impact to the community, both residential and business.
But Xfinity is silent about its own deficient engineering and the obvious lack of redundancy/resiliency. Miles of cables everywhere and you tell me that a single cut in a single cable can cause an outage to a large area like this? Seriously? Can you protect your cables everywhere? Of course not. So you must build resiliency in your infra.
And I also just found out that T-Mobile uses the same cables, because the nearest tower went dark and we lost cell phone service as well at the same time and for the same length of time. That's unacceptable, but a conversation I need to have with T-Mobile as I always thought of my cell phone provider as a redundancy, but they are together. Do I ditch Xfinity or T-Mobile?
But yes, Xfinity needs to explain why their infrastructure in my neighborhood [Edited: "Language"], what they plan to do about it, etc. Meanwhile, I'm contacting my representatives and your competitors.
