Why are there 2 wires coming from the pole?

I have 2 orange xfinity coax wires coming from the pole, going to the side of the house. I am cleaning up all the loose wires from various companies, and I want to know it's possible to have just one wire from the pole to the house. Obviously it could go to a splitter on the side of the house, then one can branch off to cable and one to internet.

Hey @LordJVB, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. We can certainly help with the cable lines. Do you live in a multi-dwelling household where two cable drop lines may have been needed? If you follow the lines, does your equipment utilize one of both of the lines?

Hello, thanks for responding. No, it's just a single family home. One orange coax goes into the basement wall, then splits off to there rooms, and then the other orange coax goes into another hole into the side of the house and connects to a coax outlet in another room. They both work the same, meaning that we have had the cable box and cable modem both hooked up to each outlet in the house and they all seem to work the same. I just want to minimize all the lines coming into the house. But there are definitely two separate orange xfinity lines literally coming from the pole to the house.

Is there one line that is not in use at all @LordJVB?

No, we have our modem hooked to one of them, and we have the cable box on the other. But can I just have one of them from the pole go to the house, then have a 2 way splityer there? As to eliminate 2 wires going into 2 separate holes in the house?

@LordJVB We can certainly check on that request for you from here. Could you send me a direct message with the full name and complete address for your service?

To send a direct message [private message]:

Click the "Direct Message" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

   - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

   - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

   Press Enter to send it

I can literally just unhook one of the coax cables right at the house, where it has a connector, and roll it up by the pole. I can then hook the other coax at the house to a splitter, add my own coax which I have and run it to the outlet, if that's an acceptable recommendation. I just wanted to see if it was even a possibility that one of these was only for internet, and one only for cable somehow, even though as I've mentioned that they both work the same inside.
