Xfinity Chat - Free iPad scam
Xfinity chat member told me there was a free ipad promotion on my account. After I had scheduled a technician. Had me fill out a form with my SS and DOB. Confirmed there were no prices changes. I have the chat downloaded as proof. After multiple questions at the end. Found out there is $79 up front and after 12 months I had signed up for as mobile line which would be $40 per month. Never wanted this. He literally lied to me. I need you to remove my information as internet service doesn't require my SS and DOB. Additionally, you should fire that employee.

Same thing just happened to me. Same person as well. I signed up and unfortunately after looking this up, it appears that I may have been scammed. I see my billing and charges changed, so hope we receive the iPad. I was charged 70$ for taxes and upfront fees after being said it was only 5$ a month extra on my internet bill.

UPDATE: I never actually signed up for the phone service since I caught it at the end. My SS and DOB that I provided is still there, I am assuming. Their customer service or whatever group it is that's supposed to fix these issues literally did nothing. They said since I didn't sign up its not in their database. Don't really believe it but not much I can do clearly. As far as the whole IPAD promotion goes: Yes, it's real only if you sign up for their phone lines. They don't tell you about it though, they just say its a free ipad promo; price does not change of your current internet blah blah. Laterally lying to you as I mentioned in my initial post. They say nothing about phone service and additional phone service cost. If they started this conversation as" if you sign up for our phone service at comcast, then you will get a free ipad" - that's clear. This whole thing so bad and embarrassing for comcast and xfinity.

This same scam of being promised a free ipad but to keep my internet price below $100 was my offer or my bill would go higher.
Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Deceptive Billing and Unauthorized Mobile Line Activation by Xfinity
Dear Xfinity Customer Support,
I am writing to formally dispute charges and document an ongoing issue involving deceptive billing practices and unauthorized services added to my account.
I was offered a promotional package to keep my monthly internet rate below $100, with an included iPad, and was assured that there would be no impact on my current billing arrangement. However, after accepting the offer, I received calls from Xfinity attempting to activate a mobile line that I had never requested nor authorized. Initially, I dismissed these calls as sales efforts, only to discover over a month later that my "included" iPad had been classified as a mobile line, incurring monthly charges that I had neither agreed to nor were disclosed during the initial offer.
Since discovering these unauthorized charges, I have spent over five hours attempting to reach an appropriate supervisor or representative with the authority to resolve this issue. After several months of ongoing efforts, I recently spoke with a supervisor who informed me that, due to the line's activation being over 60 days ago, I am now financially liable for over $500 in charges related to a device originally promised as part of my internet package at a fixed monthly rate.
The supervisor mentioned that I could return the device via FedEx, but that no return label would be provided due to the elapsed timeframe. I was further informed that if the iPad passed a quality check, the billing might be adjusted accordingly. Despite my request, he declined to provide any written or recorded confirmation of this verbal agreement, leaving me with no documented assurance that my account would be credited upon the return of the device.
Given the significant time and effort I have expended addressing this matter, I am formally requesting the following:
1. A clear and documented resolution, including a written acknowledgment that, upon receipt and verification of the returned iPad, any outstanding charges will be fully reversed.
2. Immediate cancellation of any unauthorized services tied to this device, as they were neither requested nor consented to.
3. Reimbursement for the extensive time and inconvenience caused by Xfinity’s unclear and misleading practices, which have placed an undue burden on me as a consumer.
In the absence of a satisfactory resolution, I intend to pursue dispute options through my credit card provider and may consider legal action to address the time and financial resources lost in resolving this issue.
Please address this matter promptly, as I am prepared to take further action if necessary.
Sincerely,
[Edited: "Personal Information"]

iPad was delivered to my house, after trying to cancel this additional service that was mis-represented. I finally was able to return the ipad yesterday after spending more than 10 hours with support. The first two shipping labels they sent me were not valid after getting to FedEx. Even after going to the Xfinity store, they said there was no promotion, and said the online representatives will lie and do everything they can to sell you something new. They said they wouldn't be able to return the iPad for me. I've had a terrible experience with Xfinity and have filed a consumer report with BBB, will be charging back all of the added fees that I was charged with through this process, and will ultimately be finding a new internet provider after falling for a scam promoted by this company. This is not a "free iPad". They are opening a whole new service under Xfinity Mobile (not related to your Xfinity internet service). Even if they said it's no added cost, they will charge you a whole separate bill for Xfinity mobile, and by the time you get that bill, you are already past the 14 day return policy, so you're stuck in a 2-year contract paying over $1000.00 for the iPad and cell plan on this. Sounds "free" to me, right? Can't believe this company is allowing support to do this.

I fell for the same scam.
They sent me the ipad and after activation there is no promotional discount.
I'm being charged $65 every month for the "free" ipad and mobile line .
Xfinity customer service is not helping.
Did anyone get a resolution for your case?

Exact same thing happened to me. I was on a chat for a technical support issue when it came up. I told them that I didn't need it. They said it'd lower my internet bill by $10. all I had to do was pay the taxes on the device. After receiving it, something didn't feel right, so I got back on chat and asked them to confirm. I told them that I believed I'd get monthly charges and they gaslit me and said nope. I've now auto paid Xfinity Mobile two months service at $30/mo. We've been customers for nearly 30 years. It's ridiculous!

I had the same thing happen today. I told them I would think about it and get back to them. I was told the offer wouldn't last and needed to decide right then. They sent me a link to a website that looked suspicious and asked for my SS number and DOB. I cant imagine that Xfinity only has offers that last 30 seconds so I said no thank you, but it made me feel like I was being sent to a website that wasn't run by Xfinity in order to get my personal information. Very suspicious and I am wondering if Xfinity vets the people they hire, and the people that can get into your wi-fi router and who knows what other information. Very upsetting.
