Xfinity xFi Pods - the current xfinity app DOES NOT have a way of activating them

I have two new xfinity xFi pods and cannot activate them from the xfinity app - the instructions that come with the pods refer to some other app I cannot get from the Apple apps store.  I have looked at online fora and not found any help, the chat assistant is no help.  

If you can respond with clear instructions that work, I will thank you and be happy.  If not, I will use the two pods in an animated sculpture going on display in the Cambridge Museum in January.  The pods will represent the eyes in a blind, soulless monstrosity representing Xfinity.
