Camera motion detection recording
Was anyone else told that the cameras would detect motion and record 16 second clips as part of the basic service? That's what I was promised by the Xfinity store salesman and by the installer but it's not working. Xfinity support says they only offer 24/7 recording for an additional $10/month fee. I don't need 24/7 recording. I just want what I was promised.

I apologize for the misinformation. At this time, the xCam2 (our latest camera model) does not support Rules, which would be required to configure motion and video clips. This camera does support 24/7 Video Recording service, which is an additional $9.95 per month and covers up to 4 cameras.
The xCam2 does support Motion notifications. This will send a snapshot picture of motion to your mobile device via a push notification. More informatoin on that is here.
Camera models that do support Video Clips and Pictures on motion events include the iCam2 and the original xCam.
I hope to have more information on new rules and alert capabilities in the near future!

I have not seen a published distance for detecting motion, but I can tell you about my own personal experience.
I have a driveway that can accomodate a couple of cars between my house and the sidewalk, and my xCam2 detects people walking on the sidewalk... but it will not generally pick up on people walking on the other side of the street (even though I can see them when watching the live camera views).
The "people" detection for notifications uses AI and is not perfect... but you should see it be right far more often than not. You might want to experiment with turning on All Motion Notifications just to see what is being detected in general, versus for just People.
