Xfinity Security Cameras and xFi Pods

I'm trying to research reach prior to purchasing Xfinity security cameras. Here is my question - my home is fairly large 7,200 sq. ft. and the modem/router (owned by Xfinity) is on one corner of the house. I have 4 xFI Pods 2nd Genration. If I purchase the new 1080p security cameras would these connect to the new xFi Pods or they need stable covarage by the Xfinity gateway? The prior model 720p cameras, I was told by a Xfinity tech that will not connect to the pods.

Hey there @user_bea843, thanks for connecting with us here on the Xfinity Support Forums. This is a great question, and I hope this provides the answer you're looking for.

 Supports 802.11n Wireless Standard. The 802.11n standard provides backward
compatibility with the 802.11b and g standards. The xCAM can work with all 802.11n,
802.11b and 802.11g Wireless stations.
 Wired and Wireless Network. The xCAM can be connected either with wire or
wirelessly to your network.

Meanwhile, the Sagemcom B1A xFi Pod 2nd Generation Device Information (XE2) listed below is:

Wi-Fi Radios

  • 5GHz 4x4 MIMO 802.11a/n/ac
  • 5GHz 2x2 MIMO 802.11a/n/ac
  • 2.4GHz 2x2 MIMO 802.11b/g/n
  • Tri-Band, tri-concurrent radio operation
  • 5 GHz MU-MIMO with Beamforming

Channel BW

  • 2.4 GHz 20/40 MHz
  • 5 GHz 20/40/80 MHz

Bluetooth

  • BLE 4.0

CPU and Flash/RAM

  • 717 MHz 5400 DMIPs, 128 MB/512 MB

Ethernet

  • Dual GbE Ethernet

Power Supply

  • 100 - 240 VAC, 50 - 60 Hz, 15W Max

Operating Temperature

  • 0°C to 40°C

So, with that said--while the pods are great--it may be better to have the cameras either hardwired or connected direct to the wireless network broadcasting from the gateway, especially for such a large house.

@XfinityBrie

hi there, I think may just solve my problem. So just to confirm, if I have these special Y cables and connect them to my xfi router, the older icam WILL work?

Not sure if you were planning on using 24/7 video recording, but the iCam1's do not support the 24/7 video recording.

I no longer work for Comcast.
