BYOD Moto G Stylus 5G 2024

I have a new Moto G Stylus 5G 2024. The BYOD web link says that this phone's IMEI is not compatible with the XFINITY database. Can anyone help to add my IMEI to XFINITY DataBase?  I would like to purchase additional mobile line and add this phone to XFinity Network. It is for sure compatible, you have this device in your store available. This device I have is fully unlocked, I bought on Amazon few months ago.

Thank you for reaching out @user_y1nks2 Motorola lists an unlocked Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) as compatible with many other carriers, but explicitly states it is not supported by Xfinity Wireless, per Motorola Support US https://en-us.support.motorola.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/181503/~/carrier-compatibility-%7C-moto-g-stylus-5g---2024

I suggest visiting the link: https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/?CMP=KNC-GOOGLE-761191507156-c-xfinity%20mobile%20phones-e-RMKT_XM_ECXM_BR_General_Exact_National&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=RMKT_XM_ECXM_BR_General_Exact_National&utm_term=xfinity%20mobile%20phones&25899279176&21231888146&164551658147&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21231888146&gbraid=0AAAAADdwT3JskIDcNlM5q7jdyoEx5V7PV&gclid=CjwKCAiAoNbIBhB5EiwAZFbYGP5KIWDkDeO5VIcYlsxiSxQTyl7SL7kC2p_ajgh5WkKlxRCqiOdXGxoCcWoQAvD_BwE to review deals on devices.

Thank you for reply. Anyway, it seems to be very weird. The same model is available at Xfinity store. Wondering how is that?

There are times when a specific phone will not be compatible with all carriers even when they carry a variation of the same phone. @user_y1nks2

Hi - I have the same question. The answer is somewhat unsatisfying. If Motorola lists this phone as compatible with practically every other carrier/network out there, and the same phone is sold by Xfinity directly, why would this customers phone not be compatible? Can you be specific in your answer? Honestly it seems to be either laziness on Xfinity's part, or a deliberate effort to force people to buy phones through Xfinity. If the latter, that would be very disappointing.

@user_zccrhn - This is a common question, and while I want to apologize for any answers that seemed vague, there are specific technical and business reasons why a "compatible" phone bought elsewhere is rejected by our system. The reason your unlocked Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) is showing as incompatible, despite us selling the exact same model, comes down to IMEI "Whitelisting" and Database Management.

1. The "Whitelisting" Database Issue
Xfinity Mobile operates as an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) on Verizon’s network. However, we maintain our own independent database of "eligible" devices.

- Xfinity-Sold Devices: When we sell a Moto G Stylus, we pre-register those specific IMEI numbers into our system.

- Third-Party Devices: Devices bought from Amazon, Best Buy, or Motorola directly are "Factory Unlocked." Even if the hardware is identical, their IMEIs are not automatically shared with our internal activation database.

- Why it fails: If your IMEI isn't in our "Allowed" list, the automated system simply flags it as "Incompatible," even if the hardware is 100% capable of running on the network.

2. Firmware and Provisioning (The "V" Factor)
Even though the phone is "unlocked," the firmware on our version is often slightly different from the factory unlocked version.

- Network Features: We require specific firmware configurations for features like WiFi Calling, Visual Voicemail, and automated switching between Verizon towers and Xfinity WiFi hotspots.

- The Certification Gap: We have to "certify" every specific firmware build for BYOD. Motorola often prioritizes certification for major carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile). If Motorola or we haven't gone through the process of certifying the Factory Unlocked variant of that specific 2024 model for our specific network settings, the system will block it.

3. Business Strategy (The "Forced Purchase" Theory)
You mentioned it feels like a deliberate effort to force phone sales, and from a business perspective, we understand how you feel:

- Inventory Control: By restricting BYOD for certain Android models, we ensure that customers who want those specific phones buy them through us, often tied to a 24-month credit or contract.

- Support Costs: It is much cheaper for us to support a limited "menu" of devices we sold ourselves than to troubleshoot thousands of different factory-unlocked Android variations that might have slight software bugs on our specific network configuration.

Can it be fixed?
In many cases, no - at least not through standard customer service.

- Manual Overrides: Most of our frontline agents do not have the technical tools to "whitelist" or manually add an IMEI to the database. We can only read what the screen tells us.

- The SIM Swap Trick: Some users have found success by activating an Xfinity SIM in a "compatible" device (like an old iPhone or a phone we sold) and then simply swapping that active SIM into the Moto G Stylus. Because the phone is factory unlocked, it will often work for calls and data, but WiFi Calling and Visual Voicemail may never work, and we cannot provide technical support if you run into issues.

Your phone is hardware-compatible, but it is "digitally incompatible" because we have not added the non-Xfinity serial numbers to our database, likely due to a combination of firmware certification costs and a business preference for selling our own inventory. I hope this helps!
