How to get a phone if you live in an apartment and store doesn't carry it?

I ordered a phone for my adult son last week. That was it's own fiasco, it took over an hour. 

The xfinity store near me doesn't stock the iphone 16 Pro, you have to order it. Fedex attempted to delivery yesterday while I was home in my apartment, waiting. They left a tag with no information. My building is locked, you have to buzz to get in. They didn't buzz me, how could I sign for the phone? Called Xfinity and Fedex this morning, supposedly fedex is coming by end-of-day today. Apparently I am supposed to sit outside my building all day, in winter, in case Fedex comes, because they won't let me know they're here but I have to sign for the package?  Xfinity has no work-around for this. I am guessing other people who live in apartments have ordered phones.
