Motorola Edge (2025) won't use a different ringtone
Hello,
I'm cross-posting this from the Motorola forums just in case this bug is specific to the Xfinity bootloader, for example 🤷♂️
My Motorola Edge (2025) that I bought from XFinity won't use any ringtone (built-in or custom) other than the default Moto.ogg when an actual phone call comes in.
I can set a new ringtone just fine in the settings under Sound and Vibration, and everything (other than an actual phone call) that can trigger the ringtone (like the preview that plays when you adjust the ringer volume) will play that new ringtone just fine. But again, an actual phone call still triggers the factory default "Moto" ringtone. This behavior persists across restarts and resets. I have cleared the storage and cache for the Phone app and Contacts app, and the behavior still persists. It doesn't matter if I try another built-in ringtone or a downloaded mp3. Always the same result.
Unfortunately, the Moto ringtone is unbearable 😂, otherwise I wouldn't have a real problem with any of this.
I can set Contact Ringtones, and everything including actual phone calls will use those new ringtones just fine. That being said, I will not be going and setting a custom Contact Ringtone for every single one of my contacts 😂
Side note: Custom notifications, alarm sounds, etc. all work perfectly. It's just the global ringtone that won't work.
I have everything up to date to my knowledge.
Software Version: V2VD35.63-85-1
Phone by Google version: 202.0.838486605
I've already done all the other common troubleshooting steps for this:
- I'm running just one eSIM from Xfinity
- The default apps are all set up correctly (Phone and Caller ID)
- The sound files are in the correct ringtones directory
- I already tried resetting app preferences
- I've tried changing the ringtone from the phone app directly (it just redirects to the system settings)
- Same behavior in Safe Mode
Is this a known issue, and are there steps to fix this yet? I'm tempted to just root my phone and rename my preferred ringtone to Moto.ogg otherwise.
Thank you in advance.
