True Cost if the pixel 8

I was offered a pixel 8 for free as a backup phone on a second line,  it seemed fine until the phone arrived.  the phone has. ever worked properly and now does t work at all,  i don't know if its a glitch in the software or just a horribly made phone but it's useless and belongs in the bin.  problem is, it isn't truly free and I owe $320 if I cancel early yet the phone is only valued at $125.  So how do I get rid of this horrible phone without paying an extra $200?  I feel like the miserable experience of paying for over a year and not having a useable phone should be punishment enough.
