Unable to access email with third-party tools overseas

I have Comcast POP3 email and access it on a macbook pro and iphone.  Both devices have worked flawlessly for over a year sending/receiving emails from my comcast/xfinity account.  However when I travel overseas, they fail to authenticate (typically get wrong password error).  I can get around this by using a VPN but this is predictablly inconvenient.  WHY does Xfinity email authentication fail EVERY TIME I travel overseas?

I'm all for security but what would be the proper way to have access to comcast email when traveling overseas using a 3rd party tool?  Clearly, there must be a way to do this securly and conveniently (ie using 3rd party app).  Using the web version is like using an abacus - unacceptable.  Thanks for your help!

We understand where you are coming from, but as you mentioned the VPN option is going to be the best way to access your email through a 3rd party client securely.
