Upgrade

Hello,

I was wondering if I use the upgrade with the mobile plus plan and I pay the new phone in full without being on a payment plan would the device I trade in still have the remaining balance forgiven?

Greetings, @user_wrzaua! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum about upgrading your device. You have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

I really liked this question, and I don't honestly recall if this has come up before. Everything I could find regarding the Mobile Plus trade-in program on our support page (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/upgrade-anytime-faqs) revolves around setting up a device payment plan (DPP) on the new device. If your old device has an existing balance, it will be forgiven once the phone has been turned in and inspected.

There are usually additional discounts factored in to the pricing on your new device that will only work if you maintain the device payment plan, since the discounts are added as a monthly credit. If you pay the phone in full, any potential discounts would be eliminated, but if the device you are considering does not have any meaningful discounts, that may not be a factor.

I did find something in the FAQ portion of that support page, where it mentions: "Once you've met all the requirements and the upgrade anytime is done, we'll apply a credit to your account within three billing cycles equal to the remaining balance of your old phone’s payment plan." I'm guessing all the requirements includes setting up a new DPP, especially if that was the only option on the ordering page. It also mentions that if you cancel or downgrade your Mobile Plus plan, any credit that was applied to the traded-in device would be owed. It's possible the same could be true if the new DPP was paid off early or the new device was paid in full.

That’s interesting, I guess the only way to 100% know is to go into the store but thank you for your help

user_wrzaua You should also be able to go through the purchase flow online, and it will indicate if anything is owed. As long as you don't complete the process, the order won't be completed unless you get to the final screen to confirm.

For some reason it’s showing I need to make half of the payments before upgrading
