Can't set up xfinity email account on Thunderbird

New PC, using Thunderbird Windows 11. Xfinity blocks me as I try to log on to complete the setup. "Access Denied. You don't have permission to access http://login.xfinity.com/login" on this server. I've spent ~2 hours on chat with Xfinity techs who can't fix the issue. Last week setting up wife's new PC, had same  problem, but tech fixed it. Everyone I chatted/talked with today seems to think I should change settings on the Account -- while I keep telling them there is no account yet as Xfinity won't let me set it up.  I see this problem in a post from 4 months ago, though no solution.

New PC, using Thunderbird Windows 11 ... "Access Denied ...

What authentication method are you using? It should be "Normal password". I don't think any of the other choices will work.

Ok, great! Thanks for clarifying. You may need to update your setting as previously mentioned. You will need to update access to third party email programs like Thunderbird. Please see here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/third-party-email-access

Have had 3rd party access checked for years and years. 4 days ago, before I began setting up this new PC, I easily accessed my xfinity email via Thunderbird on my old Win 10 PC. The issue is that Xfinity is blocking my access to complete the set up process.  "Access Denied. You don't have permission to access http://login.xfinity.com/login" on this server." Why not? What's stopping things? The log on screen is a pop up that shows up after I've filled in all the info. If this page let me, I'd upload an image of the error screen.

I have the same problem, but on a new Mac.  Tbird still works fine on my old PC that is still operative.  Can you help?

k4wk, Give this a try and let me know if it works:
To fix Xfinity blocking email access through third-party Thunderbird, users can update their email security settings in Xfinity Email. They need to sign in to Xfinity Email, click on the Gear icon, select Settings, then click on Security. From there, they can uncheck the box under Third Party Access Security to prevent third-party programs like Thunderbird from accessing their Xfinity Email. By following these steps, users can adjust their settings to allow or disallow access to third-party email clients like Thunderbird.

I have the same problem.  Long time user but first time trying Thunderbird.  That worked fine in Android but it doesn't for my PC.  I keep getting the message:

Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://login.xfinity.com/login" on this server.

Reference #18.6ac83017.1735594462.47c9a170

The account is already set up to allow third party programs access.  I've also tried with a password and without.  Without, the set up should finish then I should get prompted for a pw when I try to get email but instead it gets stuck trying to check the pw.  It also gets stuck there if I enter the pw.  I'm very confused.

@gmknobl What worked for me, as suggested by a forum user here, on Server Settings/Security Settings set your Connection Security as SSL/TLS and Authentication Method as 'Normal Password'.  I think the default setting for Authentication is Oauth2, which must be changed. Good luck.

I have the same issue with Thunderbird, it cannot log into Xfinity Email successfully, says invalid PW or config, but both are correct. I have mine set as a pop3 server, mail.comcast.net port 995, SSL/TLS, Normal PW. It fails. Identical config on my W10 machine sitting next to it, no issue. I can log into the website manually no problem. I also verified it isn't being blocked on the new W11 PC. I'd hate to have to switch to another client, I have 12 years of emails, this is not the first time I have migrated TBird. I have searched all of the forums and found no solution. Beyond frustrated, but that is probably where I'm headed...

Hi user_85hx6l, thank you for checking out our Forum for help with your email issues. I'm limited in the support I can provide directly with 3rd email clients, however; I promise I'll do all I can. Are you able to test if resetting your Xfinity password allows you to log in/access your emails?
