Can't set up xfinity email account on Thunderbird
New PC, using Thunderbird Windows 11. Xfinity blocks me as I try to log on to complete the setup. "Access Denied. You don't have permission to access http://login.xfinity.com/login" on this server. I've spent ~2 hours on chat with Xfinity techs who can't fix the issue. Last week setting up wife's new PC, had same problem, but tech fixed it. Everyone I chatted/talked with today seems to think I should change settings on the Account -- while I keep telling them there is no account yet as Xfinity won't let me set it up. I see this problem in a post from 4 months ago, though no solution.

What authentication method are you using? It should be "Normal password". I don't think any of the other choices will work.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Unfortunately as of June 3, 2024 you are not able to create a new Xfinity Email account. Please here :

I have the same problem. Long time user but first time trying Thunderbird. That worked fine in Android but it doesn't for my PC. I keep getting the message:
Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://login.xfinity.com/login" on this server.
Reference #18.6ac83017.1735594462.47c9a170

The account is already set up to allow third party programs access. I've also tried with a password and without. Without, the set up should finish then I should get prompted for a pw when I try to get email but instead it gets stuck trying to check the pw. It also gets stuck there if I enter the pw. I'm very confused.

I have the same issue with Thunderbird, it cannot log into Xfinity Email successfully, says invalid PW or config, but both are correct. I have mine set as a pop3 server, mail.comcast.net port 995, SSL/TLS, Normal PW. It fails. Identical config on my W10 machine sitting next to it, no issue. I can log into the website manually no problem. I also verified it isn't being blocked on the new W11 PC. I'd hate to have to switch to another client, I have 12 years of emails, this is not the first time I have migrated TBird. I have searched all of the forums and found no solution. Beyond frustrated, but that is probably where I'm headed...

When I'm connected to VPN Comcast email doesn't work in Thunderbird period! Disconnecting VPN solves this dilemma.

Ive had Comcast for years, Over 4 years ago we switched to Verizon but still maintain our Comcast email account. The last two years Ive had trouble sending emails. I have windows 10 and use Thunderbird for my email account which is the legacy email Ive used since my Comcast days. However, sometimes when I try to send emails I get an error which reads, "sending of the message failed, an error occurred while sending mail, Outgoing server (SMPT) error. The server responded: resompta -a2p-6461771.sys.comcast.net Excessive failed authentication, ESMTP server temporarily not available". The problem are, first when contacting Comcast they want your account nuymber, which I no longer have, I only have an email account. Secondly after finally talking to someone they had me reset my out going server settings, which did not fix the issue, Third, they wanted me to sign onto my Comcast account via the internet, which always works. I dfont want to use my internet for my email access because I leave my email open all day, I don't want my internet open all day. Also Iused this account for years, it wasn't until about 2 years into my Verison usage that I started having issues. Over all problem is I don not want to discard my Comcast email account, I have way too many things saved under the account which has been there since the start of the internet. So what is the issue? Doesn't Comcast play nice with other third party emails apps?

This usually means that one or more of your devices is repeatedly trying to log in to the mail system, but is supplying an incorrect ID or password. Eventually the system will lock you out for a period of time. Comcast/Xfinity's Comcast Security Assurance group at 1-888-565-4329 (from https://spa.xfinity.com/contact-us) may or may not be willing and able to help you figure out which is the offending device.
If not, you'll have to locate the troublemaker yourself. https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/possible-solution-for-unable-to-connect-to-email-from-apple-maybe-other-devices-after-changing-comcast-password/65a1a8fbf961c6163a367c6f describes one approach.
