Can't view attachments

I have always been able to either view or download attachments in my emails.  All of a sudden I can no longer just view them. I get an error message saying I have to download.  This happens on every device that I read my emails on.

user_1crakg Thanks for reaching out about the email issue. Are you using a third party app causing the download requirement, or checking it directly through us?

... I get an error message saying I have to download ...

What kinds of files are producing that error? On my own Connect email "View" seems to work for JPG/JPEG images and MP4 audio files, but displays the "Download " message for PDF files. That's new. Just a few days ago Connect displayed PDF files with no problem.

I am having the same problems.  I used to be able to view or download pdf and excel files.  Now I get message "an error occurred while loading the document so it cannot be displayed.  Please download the file by using the button below.

This has just started.  Files which displayed before no longer display

A friend suggested to use Outlook for my comcast email.   It's something new to have to learn, but it allows you to view attachments!

Alyssa, so glad to hear from xfinity.  I am not using Outlook.  If I were, this problem would not exist.  Many others are having this problem with comcast server.  It happened abruptly to all of us over all our devices.  Are you able to research and fix this?

I am having the same problem. I've followed all the advice, and nothing works. It is on my MacBook and my iPhone. Just started I think this past week. It's recent. I did notice if you click on the more actions it gives an option to view pdf and it shows as view that way but that's also cumbersome.

Good to know! Thanks

I checked the menu for additional actions on my android devices and the option to view is not included.  😟😬

Hello @user_wd38sr can you confirm how you are accessing your email, are you using a third party client? Have you tried viewing the more actions option as mentioned above to view the PDF version?

user_d648s5 I would recommend clearing out your cache, and cookies for your web browser to see if that resolves the issue.

I am having the same problem and a friend of mine is also having this issue. I am using the browser email, I tried both Chrome and Firefox on my iPhone, iPad and Windows PC. Yes, I deleted cache, cookies, etc. Sounds like a widespread problem.

Hello @screen1009, thank you for your comment. Does it give an error message when you try to view the attachment, or does it just say download?

@screen1009 I am having the same problem.  I am not using a third party server.  I have cleared the cache and cookies.  I get the error message which says I have to download every attachment that comes along.  It started abruptly about a week ago.  Very annoying.

Yet another user who is having the same problem on all my devices.  I am retrieving my emails through the Xfinity website so no third party being used.  I would think you would have a solution by now given the number of people with this same issue.  Very frustrating.  Please do something about this as soon as possible ...

This is happening to so many people.  The device they are on, and the operating system, and the browser - these are very varied. lt's definitely something in Xfinity email that has just recently changed and caused this.  Please please have some technical person check this out.

They don't have a resolution for this problem. They did tell me that Xfinity email is moving to Yahoo platform and this should resovle it. I confirmed with Yahoo and it is true. You can also check for yourself. This is so frustrating as it don't matter which PC you use, I  still get the same error, not having the choice to  view or download,  contsantly wants me to download. I have figured out a temporary solutuion. Steps,  press print and you can view the attachment that way.

Selecting print is the only way I have found to view it quickly without having to download, but it does not work for all documents. This is a very frustrating problem for sure. Why all of the sudden? Makes no sense...

Thank you for posting to the Xfinity Forums @Bnjvoris, I hope you are having a good day. As someone that uses email for both work and personal use, I can understand the frustration when you are not able to use it properly. When you try to open attachments, are you getting the same error as listed above?

Same problem.  just as others have said.  on the xfinity mobile app for android.  suddenly no way to review pdf attachments.  same error message as others have indicated.  I have cleared cache, etc etc.  restarted.  reinstalled the entire app.  given app permissions.  I have exhausted options.  Mine will not let me print either.  it says to click "download" button but when I do it doesn't work.  ufta.

All of you comcast employees have kindly replied to our ( all comcast email users) issue concerning the viewing of email attachments.  All of you have asked the usual, necessary and preliminary questions that users always get: Did you restart your device?  Did you clear cache and cookies?  What kind of device are you using?....etc.

I now have a question for all of you.  Do you use comcast email, and if so, can you view attachments?

@XfinityAirelle I do not have time to sit here and direct message at this moment. I just know that I am not the only one having trouble with this. There are many on here struggling as well. Every PDF attachment that I click on "view" shows s a small white adobe acrobat symbol with text below it that says, "An error occurred while loading the document so it cannot be displayed. Please download the file using the button below." And below that there is a blue link to click on that shows the size of the download. This has never happened until recently. It just started one day, for no specific reason. I have tried clearing the cache, and restarting things, and clearing some old emails out of my storage. None of the ideas suggested on this forum have worked.

@XfinityAirelle wrote: "... What you’re describing ... points to the browser’s built-in PDF viewer failing to render inline. ..."

That's a possibility, but it's not likely the case for most, and certainly not for me. The Firefox built-in PDF viewer works just fine for me. What's broken is the PDF viewer that was once a part of the Connect web page, but has since stopped working.

This is typical Comcast/Xfinity "blame the customer" baloney.
