Clearing out my Comcast emails

I am receiving emails saying that my email is 95% full. I thought moving emails to the Archives folder on Outlook would solve that problem. Apparently, it doesn't. How can I save my email -- ideally in Outlook -- yet remove them from my Comcast cache. Thanks.

Hey, @pjsan! Thanks for reaching out to us on the forums! I apologize to hear that your mailbox is almost at capacity. Do you know how you have your outlook set up? If you are using IMAP settings it is designed to leave a copy of the email on the server (webmail). If you are set up with POP3 for your Outlook settings you should be able to go into File Tab > Account settings > select the POP3 account and hit change > choose more settings > click Advance. Here you should see a checkbox to "Leave a copy of messages on the server". Please let us know if you still need assistance with this.

Thanks for your response. I just checked, and my account is set up with IMAP settings. So, how can I change the IMAP settings on the account to POP settings?  Also, I need to make sure that any Outlook emails on my desktop still show up on my iPhone. Thanks for your help!

That's a great question! I'm not sure if switching to POP3 would cause issues with other devices getting email and certainly wouldn't want you to lose any emails. @EG or @Latoque would you happen to have any advice on this?

Haven't heard any responses from your team. So, assuming that I won't lose anything, how do I change IMAP settings to POP3, and what are the exact figures that I need to use in my outlook software? Thanks!

We can still give the experts a bit more time. They do a lot on the platform, and I'm sure they will reach out when they review this. If you visit this link, https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/switch-email-pop-to-imap, you can read about each option and determine what works best. Generally, we recommend IMAP, but we understand that customers may want to customize their settings as needed. @pjsan

@pjsan

Have you signed in to webmail [ https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/ ] recently?  You should check there to see if there is an Archive file there.

If you want all of your emails in Outlook and none left on the Comcast server, then you would need to check your settings in Outlook, regardless of POP3 or IMAP, and then choose to delete the messages when you fetch them to Outlook.  I haven't used POP3 in years so I can't tell you about that in this regard, but in IMAP whatever you delete in webmail will be deleted in Outlook and visa versa, so you would need to be very careful there.  Right now, with what you have with IMAP in Outlook, you basically have a mirror image of what is in webmail.

I think I figured out how to auto archive through Outlook. I just finished setting it up, and I'll see how it goes. Thanks for all of your help and all the help from the people at Xfinity.
