comcast email send failure

I use Thunderbird 115.7.0 with Windows 7. I have two Comcast email accounts. Both can receive email; neither can send email. My gmail account on Thunderbird works fine. When I try to send, I receive the message, "Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'." I have checked Thunderbird's saved passwords and the password I enter is correct. Settings are: Server Type = Imap; Server Name = imap.comcast.net; Port 993; Connection Security SSL/TLS; Authentication method = normal password; Outgoing Server = Comcast smtp.comcast.net (default); Port = 465; SSL/TLS; Normal Password. Comcast customer service has been of no help. They have twice promised to call back in an hour and I never heard from them. I have tried changing authentication methods, changed the password, had Thunderbird create a new account, moved my records to it, and removed the old account -- all to no avail. I don't know what caused this problem about a month ago and have no idea how to fix it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

UPDATE from original poster 5aa60a. I examined my Thunderbird profile and found 4 Comcast IMAP folders. I have only 2 Comcast email addresses. Under Profiles/[weird numbers and letters]/ImapMail, there appears

imap.comcast.net

imap.comcast.net-1

imap.comcast.net-2

imap.comcast.net-3

Could this be the problem?

@user_5aa60a, hello! Thank you for taking the time to post on our Email board. I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with outgoing mail. That definitely makes things difficult! Can you try changing the port to 587? Let's see if there is something going on with that port.

@user_5aa60a Could you send me a DM with your username?  I'd like to check our detailed logs for a possible cause.  Thanks

@XfinityTony Changing to port 587 does not affect the problem. I receive the same "Sending of message failed."

@XfinityAlex I believe a DM has to do with telephone text. Not sure. Anyway, I am so old school I don't have a modern phone, just a landline. If you tell me how to send you a DM via email or some other method, I will be happy to do so.

I have now eliminated comcast-1.net and comcast-2.net. The profile IMAP MAIL account is imap.comcast.net. When I open my email account at the Xfinity website, my password is recognized and all my emails are downloaded. But when I use the same password on Thunderbird, I am told the login has failed. I have checked the stored passwords under Thunderbird Settings and it is correct. What’s going wrong?
Other info: I am using TB115.7,0 with Windows 7. Outgoing Server is smtp.Comcast.net. Port 465, SSL/TLS, Normal Password. Imap.comcast.net, Port 993, SSL/TLS, Normal Password. Allow third party access box is checked.

@user_5aa60a I'm going to pass this to another person to look at, but the version of Thunderbird you have should allow for OAUTH as an option for authentication.  Could be worth trying.
