Comcast mail keeps asking for password

This happened before but several years ago. I open up mail and to get new ones I am asked to enter my comcast/xfinity password. I then wrote an email and tried to send it but up popped the request for a password and on and on. What is going on?

Hey there, mahnrut, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your Comcast email and password. I know how important it is to have access to your emails as I rely on my email for all my important messages. You have reached the right place to troubleshoot. 

 

Have you tried resetting your password to see if that helps? Also, how are you accessing your email through the website on your PC or what device are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I got a probably phishing email from xfinity so without responding (other than to forward to xfinity phishing) I changed my password. It was then that the password requests started - not everytime but often enough to br a nuisance. 
I get email using thunderbird on a PC and on an iphone and ipad through their mail apps.

mahnrut I can see how that would be a nuisance for sure. Before we dive in, are there any other troubleshooting steps you have tried such as uninstalling apps, clearing cache and cookies, checking for software updates? I would hate to have you repeat steps you have already ruled out.

It has stopped asking now so fixed for the time being. But now have a tv set top box not working and having a 3rd tech visit today.
