Connection to server mail.comcast.net was reset
Hello,
I use Thunderbird as my 3rd party email client. Since last night I continue to get the error "Connection to server mail.comcast.net was reset." and am unable to receive any emails. I am able to send email without any issue. I called support, but they were completely unable to assist me. I was told that my account did not have access or authorization for Thunderbird, whatever that means.
I have made no changes to Thunderbird in the past 5 years, but this issue just started to happen out of nowhere.

Yes, Thunderbird doesn't work with Comcast today on any of of three PC (Win 10 and 11). I'm getting mail on my Android phone or at https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/

Thanks for flagging this — we know how frustrating it is when mail suddenly stops working. The good news is this usually comes down to a settings mismatch in Thunderbird rather than a problem with your account, and you do not need an “app password.”
Here’s what to check in Thunderbird (Receive side first):
Account Settings > Server Settings
• Server name: imap.comcast.net
• Port: 993
• Connection security: SSL/TLS
• Authentication method: Normal password
• Username: your full Xfinity email address
Outgoing (SMTP)
• Server name: smtp.comcast.net
• Port: 587
• Connection security: STARTTLS (or SSL/TLS if offered)
• Authentication: Normal password
• Username: your full Xfinity email address
Then try these quick fixes:
• In Thunderbird: Settings > Privacy & Security > Saved Passwords → remove any saved Comcast/Xfinity entries, then relaunch Thunderbird and re-enter your password when prompted.
• If you’re set to POP instead of IMAP, use pop3.comcast.net on port 995 with SSL/TLS.
• Temporarily disable any antivirus “SSL scanning” or firewall mail filtering and test again (those can cause “connection reset” errors).
• Sign in at xfinity.com webmail to confirm the mailbox itself is working.
If you still see “connection reset” after that, tell us the exact Thunderbird version and whether you’re on IMAP or POP. We can take a closer look and help you get reconnected.
