Deleting Email Attachments Only

Would someone at xfinity please FIX THIS ASAP!!!!!!  This is absolutely stupid that we cannot do as user_de57db has requested above.  We used to be able to do this in comcast email but not any more.  And in many cases it is necessary to maintain the date and time stamp history of who sent what to us and we can't do that if the only way to get rid of the attachments is for forward it to ourselves and delete them before we send the message to ourselves!  totally insane for what we are all paying to comcast for this service!  My email is just about out of storage space for this very reason.  I'm about to have to go in lose all of this history because I can't just delete the attachments alone.  PLEASE DO SOMETHING LIKE NOW!!!!!

Hello, @nudink! Thank you for leaving a comment with your shared concerns on this user's post. We've converted your reply to its own post in order to properly address any and all questions you have at this time. Since deleting attachments (only) used to be a feature for our email service, I'd love to see if there's anything we can do to help! When was the last time you saw this feature available? May I ask what steps you used to take to delete an email's attachment(s), but not the email itself? I'll definitely look further into this for you and find out what I can! We appreciate your time and look forward to discussing this more :)

I can't remember exactly but it was no long ago.  within the past year or 2 definitely.  when you would bring up an email message click on the attachment part of it, you could view the attachment, download the attachment , or remove it.  you had 3 choices.  now we only have view or download.  I used to view it, and download it if I wanted to keep it, and then remove it so it would not take up so much storage space in the email account.  as it is now, the only way to get rid of it after you download it is to forward the email to myself, and when you forward something with an attachment, you can hover over the attachment and click on the trash can that appears there and remove it.  but then I lose the date and time that the original email was sent  if I'm keeping the email.  I and MANY others need to keep the email date and time stamp of the original message so that when I am sorting emails in any of the folders, including inbox, sent, and trash, that I find what I am looking for.  This is just totally stupid that we can't do this any more.  I am running out of email storage because of it and might have to stop using comcast all together if it does not get fixed soon.  thank you for responding and PLEASE FIX IT!

@nudink - I really appreciate those details! Thank you for taking the time to provide that information. Our troubleshooting may or may not lead to a resolution remotely, but the more customers that reach out and have us submit this feedback to our engineers, the better chance we have of shedding light on it as a known issue. Could you please send our team a direct message so that I may look further into it and report it accordingly?

To send a direct message:

  • Ensure you are first signed in, then you will see a chat box icon at the top right of your page. Click that or follow this link here: https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging
  • From there, click the 'New Message' icon. In the 'To' field, type 'Xfinity Support'.
  • Type your message in the text area that appears at the bottom of the window and hit enter to send. An official employee, such as myself or whoever is first available, will respond.

To expedite your request, we ask that you please include your name and the service address alongside a detailed summary of your request/question. Thank you!

I clicked on the link you provided above and did not see any "new message icon" and really have no idea what you are asking me to do!  I already told you what the problem is!  What more are you asking me to do????  I WANT COMCAST TO FIX THE PROBLEM!  PARTICULARLY WHEN WE ALREADY USED TO BE ABLE TO DO WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!  FOR WHAT WE ARE PAYING FOR COMCAST SERVICE, WE DESERVE TO GET THE SERVICE THAT WE NEED!!!   If you are asking me to do something more, then I need better instructions than what you provided!  I can't read minds!

Our apologies for any confusion on our part. After some digging around, it does not appear that our email client has the option to strip attachments from received emails. The only way is as you mentioned, to forward the email to yourself and remove the attachment before it is sent back to yourself. I would suggest when the email is sent, add in some information to create a sort of filing system so it would be easy to locate the email in the future. You would be able to put the appropriate sender information in the forwarded email body so no information is lost. I understand that is a pain, however, we do not have any other alternative options to strip the attachment. I found other users discussing the same issue on this forum post which may have some helpful information for you.
