Got email saying my Xfinity Mailbox is Out-dated

Got this email today. I suspect its spam/scam but it came from a comcast email address  and spam/scams usually have gmail addresses so I want to make sure its not real. Thanks, Terri

Below is the entire email and it came from  Xfinity Email < [Edited: "Personal Information"]>. Here is the beginning of the email header info....Received: from oxapp-ch2g-44o.email.comcast.net ([96.118.129.128])
 (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RS

Thank you for choosing XFINITY.

... Failure to validate your email box immediately will lead to permanent deactivation without warning. ...

Terri this is almost certainly phishing/fraud. "Click here to save your email" is a scammer classic.

... it came from a comcast email address ...

Comcast email accounts can be hacked, and "From:" addresses can be forged. These cannot be trusted.

If you check your email with Comcast's Xfinity Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/), look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo next to any message that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity. Note that anyone can insert an XFINITY Verified image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:

  • proceeding the email subject line in the list of emails
  • above the subject line when the email is opened.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

If the logo is missing when you view the message in webmail, the message is not from Comcast. Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you use their web email site.

Samples of recent phishing messages can be found at https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/alerts under "Top Phishing Scams".

To report a scam email to Comcast, follow the "Report Spam and Phishing Emails" link on https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse and scroll down to the "Report Phishing Emails" section.

@BruceW not only what you stated above, but if you look at the "from" address it states it's from [Edited: "Personal Information"] . If they can't spell "team" then you know it's wrong.

Yes, it's a personal address, so not a legitimate email from Comcast/Xfinity.

I'm getting this phishing scam nearly daily. I know what to look for but I'm sure many will fall for it. It is rated as a 'high' risk, so maybe you could suggest to them that an email from Xfinity talking about it would be useful. Thanks.

@TerriB if you're using webmail, any official email from Comcast/Xfinity will have this:

If you don't see this in webmail you can pretty well guess it's a phishing email.

Hey there Bruce.....long time !!!

Thanks for the re-assurance that it was phishing/fraud. I was pretty sure and usually figure it out on my own but this one had me stumped a bit. I never click on anything. If I have suspicions I  go to the website directly! There is so much phishing these days but its usually very obvious.

I don't use webmail  usually ....I use Outlook 2016 but I will check webmail for the logo if I ever get one of these again.

Thanks for the quick and complete help

I appreciate your note from a human.  I wasted  hours, over days, trying to get a simple "yeah, it's spam" reply from any human at xfinity.  Seems to me paying humans to help avoid frauds commited with a company's name should be a cost of doing business.  Out of desperation I clicked a logo and now await impending disaster. from my reaction to threatened loss of my ability to get/receive emails.

The grammatical errors (capital letters starting "Out-dated" and "Mailbox", a mid-sentence period after the word mails...) tell me it is suspect and not to respond. Also,

the threatening nature of its contents is a red flag.

I received the same email on 3/18, glad I didn't click on the validate button. Went online and found this site, thanks for the info.

I got this same email this morning and found that the link in the "VALIDATE UPDATED" field of the email was to

  [Edited: "Potential Phishing"]

Doesn't sound like a valid address to connect to XFINITY or COMCAST to me.

I deliberately changed a letter in the link as I didn't want anyone to click it here and end up in a bad place.

I'm just a user, not an expert nor a Comcast employee.

I have gotten the identical email several times, and have reported them to Comcast. I have not heard from them, nor can I find any information about these emails.

If you entered your login information to the fake sign-in screen you have to consider your Xfinity login hacked and should check in with Customer Security Assurance. The Contact phone number is given at https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse.

I have received this same email twice.

Can we get someone from Xfinity Support to verify if this is Phishing?

It is a phishing email.  If you look in webmail and don't see the verified Xfinity logo you can bet that it didn't come from Xfinity.  Plus, Xfinity automatically updates your email interface behind the scenes so there is nothing for you to do.

I got that as well, but of course common sense says that if you get something like this out of the blue, it never hurts to check.
Glad I did.

In addition to the misspelling , the grammar is poor … after " receive new emails ."   a new sentence begins without capitalizing " or" .
