A filter condition like:

    To    Matches    user*@comcast.net

should handle that.

@BruceW

exactly how do we set this filter. I like to use the mail on my iPhone but I also have the Xfinity app but mail is friendlier for me to use.
thanks

... how do we set this filter ...

This filter is only available if you are receiving these emails at a Comcast.net address. If so, log in to https://connect.xfinity.com/ and then select (gear icon) / Email Settings / Mail / Filter Rules. If you are using a phone or tablet "Filter Rules" may not be visible unless you switch the browser to "Desktop site" mode, see the image posted in https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/filter-rules-option/625d7d37ee0ef23e526259d7?commentId=6266e72e36b3dc41e2a6c117 for an example using Chrome on an Android phone. Unless the device screen is very large, you are likely to find filters difficult to use in "Desktop site" mode.

Note that filters defined in "Connect" only work on messages delivered to the Inbox, and only as the messages are being delivered. Messages Comcast/Xfinity delivers to the Spam folder are not processed by customer defined filters.

If you are receiving these emails at a non-Comcast.net address, I'm afraid these instructions won't help you.

Thanks Bruce. I set up a new rule but my inbox is still being filled with emails to user*
Either I don’t understand or I did it wrong. I logged in on my laptop to do it. I’ll take a look to see if I can figure out where I went wrong.

thanks

@BruceW I’m curious. Why do emails addressed to user* come to my inbox in the first place. That’s obviously not my email. It seems like Xfinity should be able to fix this.

thanks

@jbow52 The spammers are simply putting your address in a BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) list. This hides it from you, but is used to send the spam to your inbox. The server is the only one that can see the BCC, a standard feature of Email. The principal use of BCC is to enable an email to go to multiple people, but prevents everyone else from seeing your address in the email. I'm getting thousands of phishing spams a month (since September) using the BCC approach, all of them addressed to UserNNNN @ Comcast.net.

@jbow52@plumld hit the nail on the head. Make sure you're reporting any unwanted email with the "Mark as spam and report phishing" on the web app. This definitely helps to mitigate these isus over time.
