How to get Apple Mail to send emails

I've read all to post, had multiple 45+ min phone calls with Xfinity and still no solution. I have the third party app check in the web mail security page. Some post say you have to get an app specific password from Xfinity in the security section but there is nowhere to get that. Other post say you have to get it from your Apple ID page. I did that and still doesn't work. I have trouble with the Xfinity reps I talk with on the phone, broken english and bad connections and a general misunderstanding the problem. How do I get a solution? I will not use Yahoo, gmail, hotmail and others like that as they promote spamming and do nothing to stop it so I need my comcast address to work.

Hi mbohl! We appreciate you reaching out on our Xfinity Forum regarding this email concern. Thanks for being a customer with us, and please know my team is always here to support you.

I understand you're experiencing issues with sending emails. For troubleshooting purposes and to best assist you, can you tell us a little more about the specific issue you're having with the email? Are you unable to configure your Xfinity Email with the third-party email program (Apple Mail)? Are you getting an error message or code? Are you able to successfully receive emails but not send them?

Until not long ago everything was fine. Then something changed. My email on my computer is fine. The email on my wife's iMac(same model as mine) stopped sending email. It still downloads mail but cannot send. I go to her smtp setting and same as mine but hers doesn't work. It says unable to verify account user or password yet those work to download email. I read the forums and they say we need an app specific password. Some say generate it through the Xfinity web email in your browser in the security section. No such thing. Others say you do it at your apple id account. Did that, put it in for the password in the smtp section and doesn't work. Just looking for answers why it works on my computer and not hers.

Hi there. Since your wife’s iMac can still receive messages but cannot send them, this points specifically to the saved outgoing mail server settings. Apple Mail stores separate credentials for incoming and outgoing mail, so the incoming password can work while the SMTP password is outdated or assigned to the wrong server.

You do not need an Apple ID app-specific password for a Comcast.net account. Xfinity’s current setup uses the regular Xfinity email address and password for authentication.

On your wife’s iMac, open Mail, then select Mail > Settings > Accounts > the Comcast account > Server Settings. Under the outgoing mail section, select Edit SMTP Server List and make sure the account is using smtp.comcast.net. Enter her full Comcast.net email address as the username and her current Xfinity password. The outgoing port should be 587 with TLS, or 465 with SSL if 587 does not connect.

Since third-party access is already enabled, please try those settings and send a test message to yourself. If it still says the username or password cannot be verified, let us know whether the SMTP server list shows more than one Comcast server. Apple Mail may be trying to send through an older saved server rather than the one assigned to her account.
