missing email subfolders

I am missing several of my saved email subfolders.  The folders they were in are intact but empty.  They contain income tax information.  Please help.  I don't have hidden folders.

Are all of the arrows pointing down and not to the right?  Are you using webmail?

Yes, arrows are pointing down.  I have checked all folders saved in email, and missing folders are not there.  Yes, I have web-based email - comcast.
