My email filter rule has been deleted

This morning I am getting junk emails that I know I set rules for. Looked in my email filter rule - and it is deleted! I did not delete this rule. The last spam email that was sent to the Spam folder as a result of my filter rules was 5/2 7:43PM. The first email that should have been sent to the Spam folder is 5/3 10:29AM.

1) Has this every happened before (filter rule deletion)?

2) Is there a way to recover the filter rule (I had a lot of work in it)?

Thanks,

Hello, @mal316! Thanks for creating this post about your email concerns. I'm sorry to hear about the filter rule being deleted, and I'd love to help however I can! While it isn't typical for this to happen, there have been documented instances of filters disappearing. This can happen, typically due to either platform migration/updates, IMAP/third-party client sync errors, or rule corruption.

We don't offer a "trash" or "undo" feature for deleted email filters, but there are a few steps you can take to try and find the data or prevent it from happening again! Sometimes rules aren't deleted but are simply not rendering in the UI. Try logging out of your Xfinity account, clearing your browser cache/cookies, and logging back in to see if the list repopulates. If you use the "Classic" version of Outlook, check to see if you accidentally created the rules as Client-Side rules in Outlook rather than Server-Side rules on Xfinity. If they were created in Outlook, they would only run when the app is open, which might explain why emails stayed in your inbox if the app was closed over the weekend.

If you need additional assistance, you can reach out to our Xfinity Customer Security Assurance (CSA) team at 1-888-565-4329. While standard tech support likely can't see your deleted filters, the CSA team has deeper access to account logs and might be able to tell you if there was a specific system event that caused the deletion.

Since this was a lot of work, it’s a good idea to keep a simple text file or a screenshot of your most complex filter logic. It makes "rebuilding" much less painful if the system ever has another hiccup. Please let us know if any of the above helps, or if you have any other questions. We remain here to support you and your household to the best of our ability :)

Hi Sara, thank you for your reply. I've already reconstituted the majority of the filter, by progressively entering one letter of the alphabet at a time into the free text field (rule condition), then selecting from the browser retained list of words beginning with that letter. Made it a lot easier. I'm pretty sure I've missed some, but I'll plug them in as I receive them. Amazing the volume of junk email we get!

Thanks again!

mal316 It is pretty wild how much junk email comes in these days. Seems like it never ends. :-)
