new istall of Thunderbird problem

I got a new computer for Christmas.  It has Windows 11 Pro OS. I would like to use Thunderbird as email client.  The process lets me input user and password, the get to xfinity email login but then tells me Access Denied on the login server. What do I do next?

Did you try putting the account settings into Thunderbird manually, or did you try to just use the auto-configuration?  Has your account been migrated to Yahoo yet?

Thank you for reaching out here. If you have not migrated your service over to Yahoo as yet, you may need to reach out to the security team at the https://spa.xfinity.com/help site for an access denied message.

thanks for the reply.  I did go to yahoo and set up the email account but would have preferred to stay with Thunderbird.

Thank you, @user_e2eb02 The "Access Denied" error in Thunderbird with Xfinity usually means Xfinity security is blocking the app, requiring you ti enable third party access in Xfinity Web security setting or use a specific password.  You may also need to manually set servers to IMAP/993/SSL and SMTP/587/STARTTLS, using your full email address and current password, not just the last part.-Richard

In Thunderbird you may also need to make sure that the IMAP and SMTP server names reflect the Yahoo information.  When I transitioned one of my accounts, the Thunderbird data base automatically put in the Comcast server names because of the Comcast email address.  So I had to do that manually.
