scam
I've received several message that look like scams to me. They are from [Edited: "Personal Information"], and the Topic says "Please update your mailbox for better email functionality." Then in the message there is a place to click. I'm suspicious, why would I need to update?

You don't. Such messages are almost always phishing/fraud. "Click here or else" is a scammer classic. Comcast/Xfinity does not ask us to "update" our accounts.
If this arrived at a Comcast.net email address, check your email with Comcast/Xfinity's Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/) and look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo next to any message that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity. Note that anyone can insert an XFINITY Verified image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:
See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.
If the logo is missing when you view the message in webmail, the message is not from Comcast. Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present in email sent to a non-Comcast,net address, or when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you view their web email site in a browser.
Samples of recent phishing messages can be found at https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/alerts under "Top Phishing Scams".

Some bad actors purchase similar website addresses to Xfinity – often with subtle typos or misspellings – to take advantage of people who accidentally navigate to those sites.
Once there, they may prompt you to make fake purchases, confirm or update your account credentials or install malware on your devices.
These sites may be accompanied by creative replicas that look like popular websites like ours – or that of an authorized Xfinity partner – and may request you to confirm or update your account credentials.
Always double-check that the web address you’ve typed into your address bar is correct. The correct address for Xfinity is xfinity.com. And, of course, our team is here to help and can review outbound communications as well.
