SMTP refusing to accept password

Cannot get smtp to accept password in Thunderbird. Have used it for years on two different computers. Works fine on my account. Will not work on wife's account on her machne. All settings the same ( except accountname of course). She can receive emails fine, but any attempt to send throws box for password.

I have changed password 3 times now. Emails send and receive fine through mail on xfinity website, so I know the password is correct.

@dicemanrick Thanks for adding a post. That is certainly strange and we appreciate the details. You can sign in to her email, and send out emails as a test, when on the Xfinity website correct?

Yes everything works on email from xfinity. If I send email through Thunderbird then I get the box asking for password. I type in the same password used to get into xfinity, and a box comes up saying imap password incorrect.

I compared my computer's settings to hers and both are identical. I can access email fine through Thunderbird on my machine.

Have you already deleted the account or account information from Thunderbird, and then added it brand new again? Sometimes, especially after password changes, or changes in general it is best to clear the account, and then re-add it. Please let me know if you have done this, or if you haven't could you please give that a try, and let me know if it helps.

Cannot get smtp to accept password in Thunderbird. ...

Under Settings / Outgoing server (SMTP) / Authentication method, which choice are you using? For smtp.comcast.net it should be "Normal password". I don't think any of the other choices will work.

Appreciate you taking a look at @BruceW suggestion. I would be happy to assist you with some additional troubleshooting from this end. I would need some additional information.

Please send us a direct chat message with your full name and complete service address to “Xfinity Support”. To do so, click on the chat icon located at the top right of this forums page.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window and press Enter to send it.
