Solution to "Comcast currently unavailable" when adding your Comcast email to iPhone
So last Friday my Comcast email stopped downloading to my iPhone. First I tried various solutions suggested by Xfinity Online Support & Apple's Online Support pages. None worked. So then I tried deleting my Comcast email account from my iPhone & then planned to add it back. Which is where I ran into the "Comcast currently unavailable" issue. Called Xfinity Tech Support. Wasted about 4 hours talking to various people who did not seem to understand what the issue was nor were particularly energized to solve it. So out of frustration I tried calling Apple's Tech Support. They did understand the issue. And pretty quickly provided an answer.
Turns out that my VPN app was causing the issue (In my case Norton 360). Here is what I had to do.
On your iPhone, go to Settings, General, VPN & Device Management, then tap Delete VPN.
Then go back to Settings & add your Comcast email account. The verification process between the MAIL app on the iPhone & the Comcast email server should connect now. Unfortunately, as things stand, you will have to forgo using VPN until a solution is found for the iPhone.
Accepted Solution

Thanks for pointing me in the same direction. However, I have a work-around for you so you can still have the protection of the Norton VPN. Instead of deleting and foregoing it's protection, you can go into the Norton App on your iphone and disable it and then turn it back on. Of course you will need to toggle the VPN as many times a day as you want to sync your email.. Also it is safe to the keep the VPN on the phone disabled if you are home behind your home firewall using VPN.

I have iPhone 14 and Norton 360 Deluxe. I use Comcast for my email provider. My problem started just a couple days ago. Now that I think about it, I believe it was after the last IOS system update. :-{ I tried turning off VPN and rebooted. It downloaded SOME of my emails but not all and still got the same error message. Not sure where to go from here. Tried multiple times to use Xfinity Virtual Assistant. No luck. Tried calling. It ends up going back around a loop and hangs up on my, never getting to talk to a customer support agent even thought I tried the darn VA. Had a problem on my computer mail account as well. Ended up figuring out how to fix it myself. Comcast/Xfinity is NOT very helpful. They seem to do their best to keep you from a person. In the decision tree they walk you through with a robot, if your issue doesn't fit in a specific bucket, out you go!! Ugh. So frustrating. Not sure what to do at this point as it sure seems like a Comcast issue with it saying Comcast is not available. Frustrating.

I would like to know how to sort my email on my phone. I sorted it and deleted several from my computer. Then I set it to show emails received by date. Usually my phone picks up the sorting the way the computer is set but today it will not go back to receiving by date as the computer is set.

Hello
I get as far as VPN & Device Management. Then it tells me VPN is not connected and there is no delete button. There is no place in settings to add email. There is no mail option anywhere in my Settings. At a loss.

Same as all of the above, no vpn, vpn off, get Comcast currently unavailable, can access my mail through xfinity website, so login credentials are good.

This solution worked. I just had to pause my VPN connection, not delete it. Thanks for posting.
