Temporarily black listed IP address

I have traveled from Maine to Malta which is in Europe.  I have a MacBook Air, apple phone and apple iPad.  I am using the wifi where I am staying.  Whenever I try to get email, I receive the following error:  Temporarily black listed Ip address.  I eventually get some but it takes hours. At the moment it is saying it is downloading 23 messages but I don't see any.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Good Morning, @larapa! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here on Xfinity Forums! You are getting a blocked IP error when using Xfinity email outside the US because Xfinity's security systems are likely flagging the foreign IP address as suspicious, especially if you are using a third-party email client. To fix this, try using the Xfinity webmail, connecting through a VPN, or contacting Xfinity's Customer Security Assurance team to have the IP address unblocked. You can report the IP here following the instructions to report the blocked website. Please let us know if you have further troubles, we are happy to help!

Thank you for your reply.  I was still getting emails, although it took hours, but now I am not getting any.  I have to login to Xfinity to check my emails.  Very inconvenient.  Would changing my IP address help?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can someone from Xfinity answer my question for changing my IP address?

larapa Thank you for reaching our via our Xfinity Community Forums. I understand you're currently in Malta and are seeing the "Temporarily blacklisted IP address" error when trying to check your email. That sounds frustrating, especially when traveling! This error means the Wi-Fi network's IP address where you are staying has been temporarily flagged by your email provider, which is common with such a big geographical change (Maine to Malta).

Here are the two fastest ways to fix it:

  1. Use Webmail: Access your email directly through a web browser instead of your Mail app. This usually bypasses the IP-related block entirely.

  2. Use a VPN: If you have one, connect to a VPN server located in a different area (perhaps in the US). This gives your devices a new, unblocked IP address.

The good news is that "temporarily" means it should clear up on its own with a little time and patience. Trying one of the two steps above should get your messages downloaded immediately.

We hope this helps, and happy travels!

Thank you for your reply.  I have been in Malta for over 2 weeks.  At the beginning, I was getting the emails even with the black listed IP error, but now I have not received any email on my Apple mail since 10/30.  I don't have a VPN.  Can Xfinity provide me with a different IP?

Also, I am able to send emails, but cannot receive them.

Any help will be greatly appreciated because logging into Xfinity to check emails is very inconvenient.

Good morning @larapa, the IP address that is being flagged is the IP of the Wi-Fi you are using, which we do not have any control over, unfortunately.

I just received some emails on my iPad but not on my iPhone and MacBook Air.  The iPhone and MacBook are giving the same blacklisted IP address.  Why would the emails download to one device and not the other--no settings have been changed since this problem developed.

@larapa The reason your iPad is receiving email while your iPhone and MacBook Air report a blacklisted IP address is likely due to the different ways these devices connect. Your iPhone and MacBook are likely using a public IP address, which may have been temporarily blacklisted by an external spam filter. Your iPad is likely connecting through a different method (like a momentary IP change, a VPN, or a cellular connection), which is bypassing the block.

To help resolve this immediately:

1. Reboot your modem and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds. This often forces your internet service provider (ISP) to assign you a new, non-blacklisted public IP address.

2. Also, please try accessing your email by signing in directly to Xfinity.com. Since this bypasses your device's connection setup, it should allow you to view all your current emails.

We're here to help if the issue continues after these steps!

Did rebooting your equipment or checking Xfinity.com help resolve the problem?
