Yahoo transition timing guidance requested

Hello -- I am the central tech support person for a large 55+ community in Northern Colorado, with at least 200-300 residents who have use comcast.net addresses.  It is my guess that you are transitioning your customers by mail server cluster (or equivalent) so it is likely that everyone affected in our neighborhood will receive the notification at approximately the same time rather than spread out over months. This will wreak havoc on the community which depends heavily on email but is almost entirely non-techies.  But it would be very helpful if we had some warning of the timing, even if only a month of the year.  It makes little sense to try to train non-techie users on the process months before they will use it, but nor do we want a stampede if everyone unexpectedly gets the notification on the same day.  Thanks for any guidance you can provide! -- Dan

We really don't know exactly how this is timing out, so there is no absolute as to when or who or a group of "who's".  Some people with multiple comcast.net addresses have one but not the rest transition or all but one transition.  A next door neighbor may have theirs ready for transition and you're still waiting on the email.  So, there is no definitive answer to this.  What we do know is that everyone will receive an email with instructions 30 days before the actual migration; that email will come to each email address.  To be absolutely sure of the official email it is suggested to check email on the website rather than in a third party email app like Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple/Mac Mail, etc.  The verified logo will be next to the official email.

Here is information regarding the transition to Yahoo! Mail:

Hello @djm1021, thank you for taking the time to leave a post. With the Xfinity email migration to Yahoo Mail, our customers will be notified 30 days in advance to move their Comcast.net email account(s) to Yahoo Mail. I have attached an article on Xfinity Email move to Yahoo Mail

Thanks XfinnityMarshante for your reply.  I have read all of the materials from Xfinity and Yahoo and I probably understand the ramifications better than 99% of your customers.  I think you are underestimating the potential impact on communities that depend on email, even if only 10-20% of them use comcast.net as their primary email address, and especially senior communities where there is less technical experience.  We have to plan communications, and a "tech help" strategy for hundreds of people.  It would be very helpful if we have a better understanding of the rollout timing.  If our 300+ comcast.net users all got the email notification tomorrow, panic would ensue.  Similarly if nobody gets the notification until a year from now, it would be silly to try to train and prepare them now.  Timing is everything here.

@djm1021 Your point about timing is especially important, and I understand how critical it is to have clarity, so you can prepare effectively and avoid unnecessary confusion or concern. However, at this time, there aren't any updated timelines we can provide.

Thanks XfinityMarshante.  One thing I think I found in my research is that if someone attempts to login to yahoo at login.yahoo.com with their comcast.net address, and they have not received the notification, they will get "Sorry, we don't recognize this email," (no password will be requested).  BUT if they have received the notification, I assume they will be asked for their (comcast.net) passsword, and then logged in and immediately given the chance to accept the Yahoo TOS.  True?  If so, this should be widely advertised as it effectively eliminates phishing... Xfinity should just say "if your'e not sure, try logging in to mail.yahoo.com.  If it doesn't work. that wasn't the official notification."  Indeed you could suggest periodically (weekly?) and proactively trying to login to yahoo that way... then if the notfication gets lost/spammed or accidentally overlooked, the user will still be able to accept the Yahoo TOS well within the 30 days.  At least this option can allow nervous users to have more confidence.

Thank you @Again.  Do you realize there are many subtle inconsistencies between the information provided by Xfinity and the information provided by Yahoo?  This is not reassuring.

Regardless, if you read my post above @XfinityMarshante you would have seen I had posted the verified logo that customers will see next to the official email about the transition.  Once they get that email, approximately 30 days later they will receive another official verified email to accept the Terms of Service and Privacy policy for Yahoo at which time their comcast.net email will migrate to Yahoo Mail where they will login with their comcast.net credentials to access their comcast.net email.  There may be inconsistencies, yes, but the basic information is the same.

You may want to consider handing out a sheet to each member explaining the steps they will need to take for this transition.  As you and I both know, you can hand out a list of 10 things needing to be done to something [not necessarily this] to 5 people and each of them will interpret the instructions differently.  Between Comcast and Yahoo, Comcast has given instructions for their end and Yahoo has given instructions for their end.  New company, different instructions.  We can only give the instructions as we have been given them, and ditto for Yahoo.  The instructions for Yahoo, btw, we found by one of our Experts @Latoque who passed them along to us.

It is the best we can do.

I'm nervous that could have missed the transition email. If I don't get the message about Yahoo's terms and conditions when I sign in to connect.xfinity.com, can I assume that I haven't gotten the email yet?

If you haven't see the official email, you most likely haven't gotten it yet.  This transition is going slowly, and will continue until June 2026.

You need to be looking for this symbol beside all official Comcast/Xfinity email.  That way you won't lose the two posts for transitioning.  You will not see that icon if you use a third party email app, only in webmail.

lynncfields, Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to reach out. As someone who relies on my emails for important communication, I can understand the concern with how you could miss transition emails. You've come to the right place. Our team of experts is happy to help with email concerns over social media. Great question. In addition to the email, you will also receive a notification within the XFINITY app when your account is ready for the movie. If you have not received an email or notification in the Xfinity APP, that would mean that you have not been sent the terms. How does this sound?

You said, "you will also receive a notification within the XFINITY app when your account is ready ...".

Which XFinity app are you talking about?

Thanks.

Did you delete it from webmail or from a third party email app?
