ESPN App Not Playing Video

I’m trying to watch hockey on my ESPN app. I have a Flex and only do internet through xfinity.  However, I am getting a message reading

“Unable to Play Video

Error: This channel is not part of your TV package”


I will get other iterations of this message prompting me to upgrade my xfinity package. 

My ESPN+ subscription is through ESPN, not xfinity. Again, I don’t have TV through xfinity either. This is the first time this has happened. This is not a blacked-out event. I have restarted my Flex as well as signed in and out of the ESPN app.

Hello, and thank you for reaching out for help with ESPN+. I know how important it is to be able to watch your favorite programing.

Watch ESPN+ on an X1 TV Box or Flex Streaming TV Box

  1. Open the ESPN app. If you select certain ESPN, ESPN2, or other content within the app, you may see a message to visit a URL to activate the app.
  2. To watch ESPN+ content, you’ll need to click on an ESPN+ show or event within the ESPN+ tab.
  3. With your remote, choose subscribe or log in.
  4. From here, you can:
    • Log in with your ESPN+ username and password.
    • Create an account. If you don’t have an account, you’ll see a message to visit an on-screen URL.
      • Follow the prompts on your computer, laptop or mobile device to sign up for an ESPN+ subscription service.
      • Please note that you'll have the option to sign up for ESPN+ as an individual subscription, or for the Disney+, ESPN+ Hulu bundle.

Please make sure you are following the steps here to access ESPN+ on Flex.
