Voicemail Issue

Our XFINITY home phone's Voicemail 

kicks in when the phone line is not being used, causing us to miss calls. How do we remedy this?

I just went through all that last week and they assured me voice mail was deleted but someone lied. Now a few days later, NO phone calls coming in but phone is showing voice mails. What is the matter with Comcast???

Good Morning, @raf2! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here on the Xfinity Forums! Just to clarify, do you want to use a separate answering machine then the Xfinity voicemail?

YES That's what I wanted from the beginning! I was on yesterday with another Comcast person, and he temporariIy got voice mail shutdown and my phone working again for 3 house phone calls. He said he would call back this evening to see if it still works. Well it's not evening yet and our phone doesn't work. My wife tried to call and got a busy signal which is what my nephew from Florida got on Saturday at 7:11 PM. Whatever Comcast is doing, it's not working, so the person who wants to call this evening will just get a busy signal but not because we're on the phone. IT'S NOT WORKING.

We have been using an answering machine, then Voicemail, for many years. Last week we missed several important calls, so I turned off our answering machine, added phone numbers to our exclude-from-spam-filter list and added phone numbers to the "phone book" on our landline phone.
