ANSWERED: How can I stay online during network and power outages?

***5/28/2026***

During a network outage, the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender automatically switches from broadband to cellular 4G LTE connectivity, and when activated, internet speeds will be reduced to speeds up to 30 Mbps download/7 Mbps upload. Actual speeds will vary and aren't guaranteed.

Your Xfinity services rely on power to both your home and our network. A backup battery (formerly Storm-Ready WiFi) is also available for purchase separately to help keep the Pro WiFi Extender connected for up to four hours during a power outage.

When there isn’t an outage, the Pro WiFi Extender helps eliminate dead spots in your home by extending the WiFi signal, similar to our WiFi Extenders.

Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender features

  • For Xfinity Pro the Tri-Band WiFi 6 extender is only compatible with Xfinity Gateways XB7, XB8, or XB10.
  • 4G LTE connection with automatic switching during a network outage.
  • An external battery (sold separately) provides up to four hours of backup during a power outage when fully charged.

The Xfinity Storm-Ready WiFi gateway is a white device with a line of venting along the bottom. A light appears in the center just above the vents.

Learn how to set up, activate, and test the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender signal in minutes using the Xfinity app.
