Question
What are Xfinity Wifi Hotspots and how to connect to them?
Answer
Xfinity has millions of WiFi hotspots throughout our service area to make sure you’re always connected. These hotspots give you fast, convenient WiFi and are free to Xfinity Mobile customers and eligible* Xfinity Internet and Comcast Business Internet customers.
Hotspot usage doesn’t count against the monthly data usage allowance for Xfinity Internet customers.
Learn how to find and use our Xfinity WiFi hotspots below.
Note: If you want to turn a hotspot that’s broadcasting from your home Xfinity Gateway on or off, here’s how.
Find hotspots
When in range of a hotspot, look for the xfinitywifi, XFINITY, or Xfinity Mobile SSID (network name) in the list of available networks on your device. Check the hotspot location map in the Xfinity app (on the WiFi tab) or the online map.
How to know if you can connect to Xfinity WiFi hotspots
You can connect to Xfinity WiFi from any wireless device, like a laptop, cell phone, or tablet or any device that has a browser already installed.

Is Xfinity WiFi secure?
Comcast is committed to making your WiFi experience as fast, fun, and safe as possible.
Secure Xfinity WiFi (XFINITYorXfinity Mobile) encrypts the traffic passing between a user's device and the hotspot. The encryption continuously scrambles and decodes the traffic, helping to protect users from the risk of wireless eavesdropping.
Open Xfinity WiFi (xfinitywifi) supports 128-bit encryption as sign-in similar to the encryption used by financial services’ apps and websites. Users of open hotspots should always be mindful of what private information and data they expose while connected.
Tips for keeping your WiFi experience safe:
- Turn off file sharing when using your computer or handheld device on a network, at home or on the road.
- Keep your anti-virus programs up-to-date and perform regular system scans to detect any problems early.
- Look for indicators such as secure socket layer (SSL), secure HTTP (https://), and certificate warnings to increase your protection while connecting through open hotspots.
Devices that work on Xfinity's secure WiFi network
These devices work on secure Xfinity WiFi hotspots:
- iOS devices running on operating system version 17.1 or later.
- Android devices running on operating system version 11 or later.
- MacOS running operating system X 10.7 or later.
- Microsoft Windows 10 or later.
Note: BlackBerry, Chromebook, Linux PCs, and other devices such as Kindle are not supported at this time.
How many devices can connect to Xfinity WiFi at one time?
You may only have 10 concurrent devices connected to Xfinity WiFi. If you exceed 10 concurrent devices, you’ll need to disconnect a device from Xfinity WiFi to connect an additional device.
Connection time
Xfinity WiFi will disconnect you from the network after you’ve left the hotspot (typically after five minutes) or after being inactive for a period of time.
However, once you sign in on a wireless device, it’ll be registered for Automatic Sign-In and you won’t have to put in your username and password again.
Note: If you have an Apple device with the Mac Randomization feature turned on, you’ll need to sign in again if you haven’t accessed hotspots in six weeks or more.
This is for your security and a better WiFi experience.
Automatic sign-in
For the best experience, download the Xfinity app. The app will download and install the Xfinity WiFi secure profile, providing you access to secure hotspots and allowing your device to automatically connect to Xfinity WiFi hotspots in the future without having to sign in each time.
Note:The secure profile is already available on all Xfinity Mobile devices. Customers don’t need to download the app to connect to the XFINITY or Xfinity Mobile network.
- If you change the password for the account you’re using to get into the hotspots, your profile will have to be reinstalled.
- If you’re using an Xfinity ID you made before, you’ll be able to use Automatic Sign-In when your account is fully active.
- To use Xfinity WiFi and Automatic Sign-In on more than one device, you’ll have to sign in on each one and register them separately.
- To get the most up-to-date security features, the secure Xfinity WiFi profile has to be installed on each device.
Automatic Sign-In is not supported at the hotspots of some partner networks. You can find them on the hotspot location map.
I’m attached to the xfinitywifi SSID — Why can’t I reach the Xfinity WiFi sign-in page?
On certain devices the web browser may serve a default start page, such as google.com, from the cache on your device instead of from the web. Please try refreshing your browser page, or try going to a new website, and you should get redirected to the Xfinity WiFi sign-in page.
If the problem persists, please check your device’s DNS settings are set to obtain the DNS server address automatically (typically found where your network or WiFi connections are located).
Troubleshooting general Xfinity WiFi connectivity
- Many things can affect WiFi connections, including:
- How close you are to the WiFi hotspot
- Buildings, trees, or other things getting in the way
- The device type.
- If xfinitywifi isn’t on the list of available networks, you’re probably not at an Xfinity WiFi hotspot.
- If xfinitywifi is on the available network list, and you still can't connect, check your device to see how many signal bars there are.
- If you only have one or two bars, you might have to move closer to where the signal is coming from.
- If you still can’t get online and your Xfinity ID and password are correct, it is possible that we’re having a service issue.
Troubleshooting secure Xfinity WiFi connectivity
- If the SSID or network name XFINITY or Xfinity Mobile isn’t on the list of available WiFi networks, you’re probably not at an Xfinity WiFi hotspot that supports secure connections to Xfinity WiFi.
- If you’re using the Xfinity app and you can’t connect to secure Xfinity WiFi, try choosing Sign in as a different user in the app settings menu.
- If you change the password for the account, you’ll have to sign in to the Xfinity app again.
