ANSWERED: How to Pair and Install a Camera Using the Xfinity Home App?
***Updated 9/2/2026
Learn how to add a camera to your Xfinity Home Security, Xfinity Smart Home, or Shield Select from Xfinity Home service using the Xfinity app or Xfinity Home app.
Shield Select replaces Smart Home for new sales, but existing Smart Home customers can keep their current service and are not required to upgrade.
Shield Select includes WiFi Shield benefits, an indoor camera and door/window sensor, 24/7 Video Recording with seven days of secure cloud video storage, Urgent Response, and compatible Works with Xfinity device support.
Existing Smart Home and Xfinity Home customers should continue to use the app and setup path that matches their service.
Things to know:
- Activate or pair one camera at a time.
- Use only the power adapter that comes with the camera.
- If you use your own modem, router, or another internet provider, set WiFi security to WPA2 + AES.
- For Shield Select, camera setup and feature activation are managed in the Xfinity app. The Home tab may show Shield setup cards, pending device activation, and setup hub links when available.
Before activating your Xfinity Camera
Before you activate your Xfinity Camera:
- Identify your camera. Each camera has different activation steps.
- Download the Xfinity app or the Xfinity Home app.
Notes:
- Use the Xfinity app if you have Shield Select, Xfinity Smart Home, or an xCam3.
- Shield Select customers should start in the Xfinity app because Shield setup and included equipment activation are managed there.
- Use either the Xfinity app or the Xfinity Home app if you have Xfinity Home.
You should also:
- Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile device.
- Turn on Location Services so the app can find your camera.
- Choose a spot for your camera. The Xfinity Indoor Camera (xCam3) is for indoor use only.
- Plug the camera into the power outlet you plan to use. Make sure the outlet is indoors and not controlled by a wall switch.
- Check that WiFi works well where the camera will be placed. Run a speed test while connected to WiFi. You need at least 3 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload speed.
- For better performance, move the camera closer to the gateway or use Xfinity WiFi Extenders.
