Certain text messages/phone numbers are not coming through

Recently text messages from our bank are no longer coming through. Checked with the bank are all settings are correct. For testing switched the notification to voice call to get the bank code and that works, switching back to text and nothing comes through. I don't have any numbers blocked on my end. Bank says the issue is not on their end (which did work until recently).  I don't know what else I can check?  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out, we know how important those bank messages are, especially for verification codes.

Since voice calls are coming through but texts aren’t, and you’ve already confirmed with the bank that everything looks good on their end, this usually points to something on the device or network side filtering those messages.

A couple of things to check:

First, make sure short code messages aren’t being blocked. Bank texts often come from short 5–6 digit numbers, and sometimes those can get filtered. Check your blocked numbers and also any “spam” or “junk” message folders on your phone.

If you’re using an iPhone, take a look at Settings > Messages and make sure “Filter Unknown Senders” is turned off, or check the Unknown Senders tab to see if the messages are landing there. On Android, check your messaging app’s spam settings or blocked list.

Also, if you have any third-party apps for call/text filtering or security, those can sometimes block verification texts without making it obvious.

Another quick step is to reset your network settings on the phone. That can help clear out any carrier-related messaging issues.

If everything checks out, and you’re still not receiving them, we’d want to take a closer look at your line to make sure there aren’t any messaging blocks or provisioning issues on the account.

Let us know what device you’re using, and we’ll keep digging with you, we’ve got you on this.

Thanks for the suggestions.

in regards to your suggestions - Reset network settings - Reluctant to do that (reading about what would need to be re-entered to make it work)

Blocked numbers – My research says if a text number is blocked it would also block a voice call from that number on the same device.  However, only option to test would be to remove all current numbers in the blocked text list.  Also, there are no Short codes in the blocked numbers.  This is on an iphone, unknown senders is turned off and the are no 3rd party filers installed.  It would be interesting to see if on the xfinity side you could see all messages/numbers that tried to reach me.  I previously had similar issues with voice calls from 8xx numbers not coming through or going directly to voice mail.  I know xfinity is trying hard to filter spam but some of these calls were for Xfinity and Microsoft tech support!

Thank you for your reply back, @BKGD Since this is impacting getting texts from your bank, is any other numbers being impacted? In regards to your bank, have you tried the following?

  • Log in to your bank's website (not app).
  • Delete your mobile number from the security settings.
  • Add it back again to re-authorize it

That is what our bank support walk us through and it not fix it.  We are not aware of any other numbers being a problem. The bank was unable to tell us what the originating number for the text messages is, said it was computer generated.

Thank you, @BKGD I appreciate that information. Have you tried the following.

Disable Filter Unknown Senders: Go to Settings > Messages, and toggle off "Filter Unknown Senders" to ensure codes aren't hidden.

Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This clears old carrier configurations.

Check Blocked Contacts: Ensure the bank's short-code number (e.g., 5-6 digits) isn't in Settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts.

Toggle iMessage: Turn iMessage off and back on in Settings > Messages to refresh connections.

Turn Off Wi-Fi Calling:
