Mobile Compatibility with NumberBarn numbers

I recently added a mobile line on Xfinity Mobile with a new phone number. I was told by support there was no way to select that number but it was assigned according to billing address. I was also unable to see what the assigned number was prior to activating the line.

The number assigned is a complete dud.  An area code from another city and county with seven random-[Edited: "Profanity"] digits. I can't start using this number because I don't want to get stuck with it.

A solution I found was choosing and buying a number via NumberBarn and then porting it over. Unfortunately, while the NumberBarn FAQ on Xfinity Mobile does say it's possible to port over a number, it is uncertain this is possible in all cases and refers readers to Xfinity for confirmation.

I cannot find anything on the Xfinity Help site about this and chat assistants -- both AI and Live -- didn't have answers.

Can anyone help me out with some information about whether it's possible to port a number from NumberBarn to an existing mobile account?

Thanks!

@BPix thanks for taking the time to post on our Xfinity Community Forums page. You cannot port a number from Number Barn to Xfinity Mobile if it is a virtual telephone number, as porting of virtual numbers is not supported. You might be able to change your number. For more information on if your eligible to change it check out our article: Can I change my Xfinity Mobile number?

@XfinityAbel Hi thanks for the reply. I'm not sure your response is 100% correct, at least in regards to the specifics of my question.

Your own Mobile Customer Support Team has confirmed that they can port over a number from NumberBarn and they are in the process of doing that for me. It's a manual process and takes up to 2 business days.

The critical detail is that the NumberBarn number can be a number that originated from a landline - also called a "wireline" - or a mobile number but, as you correctly state, it can't be a virtual number. From what I understand  a virtual number would be one that began as a Google number or one from a similar online service.

Another important detail: porting a NumberBarn purchased number that originated as a landline/wireline" (this is most of their inventory) requires a couple of manual steps on Xfinity Mobile's end, which is why it cannot be done via the app or on the website.  You have to work with a live customer agent and they have to elevate the transfer to a "Tier 2 support" agent.  You will have to have the number you purchased, PIN Number, Authorization Name and address as well.  For a full rundown of the process NumberBarn has excellent Mobile provider port transfer FAQs, including one for Xfinity Mobile. https://help.numberbarn.com/hc/en-us/articles/4914575213719-Port-Away-to-Xfinity-Mobile

Hello @BPix, it is possible to port a number from NumberBarn, which can take between 48 hours up to 10 days to activate. This depends on the carrier. If you would like us to check the status of the port-in of your number, to protect your account information and so that we can securely access and authenticate your account If you could send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, we'd be more than happy to look into this for you.

How to send us a direct message:

  1. Click "Sign In" if necessary.
  2. Click the "Direct Messaging" icon.
  3. Click the "Start new conversation" (pencil and paper) icon.
  4. In the "To:" line, type "Xfinity Support."
  5. As you type, a drop-down list will appear. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.
  6. An "Xfinity Support" graphic will replace the "To:" line.
  7. Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window.
  8. Press Enter to send it.
